Hi all,
I´ve received my Sony Xperia P 2 days ago in Germany from Amazon Germany. Everything seemed to be working fine but unfortunately if the phone is in standby as well as when it´s being used, the battery drops rapidly and the phone shuts down after approximately 8 to 10 hours. Turning 3g off, wirless off, switching to wcdma or gsm only does not fix the problem either. As I have read this problem occured with the Xperia S as well which was then fixed by a firmware update to the version 6.0.A.3.73. Since the phone has been released here 2 days ago only there are basically no complaints about this issue with the P yet. Is there any solution planned already? I guess Xperia P users can´t use the same firmware of the S since the build has got a "B" instead of the "A" in it.
Sony - is there a firmware update in the pipeline to fix the ridiculous battery life of the Xperia P or do I need to return it?
Thanks a lot..
Ra
You should try with wireless and data off.
If you keep wireless on maybe there is a background sync ongoing
Or other apps like whatsApp
We have done that before, we are going in circles. Thanks for your help really, I appreciate that but I do not even have a signle app on the phone and it´s doing this and to be honest if a smartphone today only runs for 8 to 10 hours when surfing on the internet for about 1 hour of that time and for the rest of the time the wireless is on.. I do not actually want to turn wireless off because I want to receive mails with my smartphone. If this is not possible combined with a usage of at least a day it´s no "Smartphone"!
most smartphone's battery life it's about 8-11 hours w/ 3G data enabled

The purpose to turn off wifi and data is compare standby usage with mine
In standby with everything off my battery loses about 1% in 1.5 - 2 hrs
If you have not similar usage, there's some app or process or widget draining your battery
Have you had a look at this thread regarding your issue:

I´ve e.g. just installed the Ad Block app as suggested and blocked all useless apps... result: 13 minutes -> 6% less battery... will return it
My experience so far.
I have no task killers or antivirus, brightness is automatic with PowerSave
Standby is ok, just 1% in 1.5-2hrs
Also screen with WhiteMagic is ok, 1 hr with screen on just drained 7% battery (half of a Galaxy)
3g enabled in background seems ok too.
But replying a post with default browser in 3g resulted in 2% battery drain
Uploading 2 Mb in 3g didn't affect battery at all.
I think software, and browser particularly is not optimized
Hi ra-ho,
I'm having the same problem - battery is absolutely dismal. Turned everything off last night (data, wifi, whitemagic etc) except cell standby and drained over 30% in six hours. Not quite as severe as yours but still unacceptable. Did you end up sending yours back? Thanks
Hi LStow,
I´ve ended up sending the device back.. I have looked forward to it so much but the battery is disappointing. During the last days I had it the battery actually did get "better" and I had 3d turned off, only using GSM in Germany which helped a lot. Anyway for me it wasn´t acceptable. It´s a shame that Sony does not do anything about it and does not even really help in the forum besides giving standard advice even if one buys a device for 400 Euros - bad service! I can only hope that the software updates like for the Xperia S will come or the issue will be fixed with Ice Cream Sandwich.
You´re very welcome
Hello,
I got my XP 2days ago, when i charge it to 100% and leave it on standby (wifi/bluetooth/data/screen off) it drains 10% in 50mins. is there anyway to make my battery last longer?
