Battery Drain

Battery Drain

Hi all,

I´ve received my Sony Xperia P 2 days ago in Germany from Amazon Germany. Everything seemed to be working fine but unfortunately if the phone is in standby as well as when it´s being used, the battery drops rapidly and the phone shuts down after approximately 8 to 10 hours. Turning 3g off, wirless off, switching to wcdma or gsm only does not fix the problem either. As I have read this problem occured with the Xperia S as well which was then fixed by a firmware update to the version 6.0.A.3.73. Since the phone has been released here 2 days ago only there are basically no complaints about this issue with the P yet. Is there any solution planned already? I guess Xperia P users can´t use the same firmware of the S since the build has got a "B" instead of the "A" in it.

Sony - is there a firmware update in the pipeline to fix the ridiculous battery life of the Xperia P or do I need to return it?

Thanks a lot..

Ra

Android 4.0.4 is coming by the end of next month, now charge your phone 100% before you go to sleep in the morning go to settings -> about phone -> battery use take screenshots of this and write down how long each app was on also tap on the graph above and take screenshots

if you have any of this apps uninstall them

an antivirus

taskiller

or battery/juice defender

Hi uliwooly,

Thanks for your advice. I´ll do that tonight but just to make clear, e.g. listening to a song on youtube for 5 minutes (without video) makes the phone drop by 10%! I´m not sure what the ICS update should help, why has Sony not fixed and tested it in the first place?

I´ll post the screenshots for the overnight usage tomorrow since it´s the morning in Germany at the moment.

I have non of these apps installed, I´m using Whatsapp and Gmail and that´s about it besides the ones that were preinstalled.

it shouldn't drain so much battery, there's probably other apps or sync running in the background

I guess it shouldn´t. I mean there is Google Sync. and Whatsapp syncing and permanently on but it should not use that much battery. The exact same issue with Xperia S users - nobody else here with the same issue? Might just return it.... although it´s such a great phone.

go to settings -> about phone -> battery use

take a screenshot right now and see what's the culprit

I´ve completely wiped my phone and reset it to default. I have then charged it again to 100% and let it rest in standby for 49 minutes - it took 5% in 49minutes for doing absolutely nothing.... so there was no sync on, no whatsapp running, just android and wirless was on..

I see that you have other apps installed (I know because of the battery icon on the notification bar)

and having wifi on (as you do) will drain your battery even if you aren't using internet.
