Z3 Lollipop update breaks Mirrorlink

Hi,

Since updating from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2, mirror link has stopped working with my Pioneer headunit. Is the Z3 still certified with 5.0.2 update?

It worked perfectly with 4.4.4. I have a Pioneer AVH-X2700BS unit (certified with mirrorlink 1.1).

My head unit keeps telling me to reset the smart device setting.

Hello there!

Looks like SONY is working on a solution, just not sure when it comes:

Our developers are in contact with the the manufacturer. The status is that it has been analysed and then handed over to this manufacturer. They attempt to fix this.

Hello @Rickard! Thank you for your response. So a fix is likely to come from Suzuki/Suzuki dealers?

Hello,

I carrefully read all the topic thread and I think that there is really an issue coming from sony supporting lollipop.

I have a Z3 Compact since october and I desperatly tried to connect the Mirrorlink function to my new car, a CRV 2015 (Honda), expected for Mirrorlink but without any success. So, someone who I know tried the connect his Z3 Compact equipped with kitkat (4.4.4) and the mirrorlink worked very well. So, we can see that the same problem between kitkat and lollipop and z3 occurs for several car infotainment systems, meaning that the phone is clearly the root cause of the problem.

It is time for Sony to have a particular look on this issue because the advertising regarding this issue is very bad at the moment for the brand. Ideed, all new cars are now equipped with this technology.

So, the question is simple : is there any solution sheduled by Sony to fix the problem and so, when ?

Thanks in advance.

Great! Look forward to the product working as claimed...hopefully not too much to expect of a premium phone. N

Mirrorlink works fine in my car. The main problem is,Mirrorlink is a failed and completely useless technology. Only certified apps work with Mirrorlink :

http://www.mirrorlink.com/apps

For an app to be certified it has to be non distracting and approved by the car connectivity consortium. You will not see your entire screen mirrored on the head unit even though car manufacturers make it sound like that's how it works.

Download a certified app such as rockscout https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.carconnectivity.mlmediaplayer  and you should see it on your car's head unit. If you don't, visit your dealer and ask for your head unit firmware to be updated. Xperia Z3 uses Mirrorlink 1.1 and so the car should use the same version.

Mirrorlink works fine with the z3 and my Peugeot 108 and also on the Toyota aygo.

Another major issue with Mirrorlink is that Google and Apple are working on their own alternatives: Android Auto and Apple Carplay. These technologies are going to replace Mirrorlink completely. In theory Mirrorlink should have been like Bluetooth but from what I can tell reading various articles the cumbersome approval requirements discouraged app makers to get their apps certified, and now the technology despite being able to mirror your screen 100% is left mostly unused and only a few useless apps support it as you can see from the Mirrorlink and car connectivity consortium website.

Out of curiosity, what did you use Mirrorlink for in your car?

What Android version and car did you use?

I don't understand how come it's my car's problem, considering all other phones work (Samsung, LG) and Sony stopped working after Lollipop. This is for the Vitara 2015.

I also notice it's not working with other car maufacturers either.

What programs do you use through mirrorlink?

By the way, my z3 works with Peugeot 108 2015 and Toyota Aygo 2015 (same unit).

I tried Sygic, Glympse and Google Maps (Available in the menu on Sony)

Again, what software version where you running on your Z3?

Google maps AFAIK isn't compatible with Mirror Link. Glympse is compatible but only the most expensive version (the one that literally states in the Google Play description that it's compatible with Mirrorlink). Glympse should be compatible but I'm not 100% sure. Can you try Rockscout + Vanilla Music? It's a decent barebones music player which works with Mirrorlink.

I'm using the latest official firmware on my phone and I think the head unit firmware is also the latest (but weirdly enough it gives me issues with Bluetooth caller names and sometimes multimedia audio, not sure if it's the car or the phone to be honest, I blame the car).
