ST18a updated this afternoon to the second release of ICS (was using first release previous to this).
USB Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot are no longer working. I can connect and get an IP address but no internet access.
This is real bad since this is a primary use for my phone.
UPDATE: Confirmed same behavior with a second laptop ... I can connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone but no internet access.
UPDATE: iPad via Wi-Fi Hotspot, same thing, gets IP address but no internet access.

Does anyone know if the latest update, fixes the problem?
We really need to get to the bottom of whether the .587 ICS build fixes this or not.
Please when making any statements about this working or not ... include your phone model and carrier. Thanks!

Just to inform everybody. I chated again with Sony France a few days ago, they said that an update will be available any time now. They already told me in july that an update would be available in the begening of august...Nothing so far but at least it is acknowlegded buy Sony that the tethering problem is a flaw in their ICS version. Developers are working on it, I was told.

Hi all. I googled my Wifi Hotspot problem for my US Xperia Mini and found this thread. I recently updated to 4.0.4 as you did a week after I bought my phone from amazon last month which came preinstalled with GB 2.3.4. It's the same everything in the snapshot as in your first original post except that you have an Xperia Ray. I had this Wifi Hotspot issue like everyone here, but it was before and after the update. After reading through the replies in this thread. This is what got my Wifi Hotspot working for me. I haven't tried USB or Bluetooth tethering yet so I don't know if these settings will work for those features. Also, these settings I posted apply to the US model Xperia Mini so they might not work with the International Xperia Mini or International Xperia phones in general.
My fix was to change the default T-Mobile US settings that's located in the APNs. I say default because I am unable to delete it. Anyway, back to the changes.
First, select the T-Mobile US settings and change them to look like this (I found this in a link someone posted here from the XDA forum):

Sorry, but I was previously an iWhore so I'm still trying to figure out how to take snapshots of the screen. I tried the Volume down and Power for 1-2 seconds, but didn't work so I had to type out these settings instead. You don't have to change each APN setting in this order, but it was the order I did them in. Let me know if they work for you. Good luck!
riverob,
These settings do not fix the wifi hotspot for me on AT&T since updating from GB to ICS.587

I'm not too familar with ICS versions. I thought 4.0.4 was the latest. Is your phone rooted? Mine isn't. Can you downgrade back to 4.0.4?
Phone is stock, not rooted.
I'm sending it back to Sony Service today to get back to Gingerbread.
Wifi Hotspot did work for me with ICS but ONLY on the very first release. That is not available anymore.
2nd and 3rd releases it continues to be broke.

Once again today I chated with Sony France. I complain that the update ti fix ICS tethering problem suposedly available in august has not arrived yet. Somebody name Alain Philippe told me the update is now available and the distribution is starting. So shall we trust Sony?

To those still following this thread;
Do you have a legitimate data plan that has tethering on it?
Reason I ask is that as many know using unlocked (non-subsidized phones) like the Xperia series, you often can use a non-smartphone SIM and still get data and other features at a greatly reduced cost.
Can anyone confirm ICS breaking hotspot/tethering when you have a full 'Smartphone' data plan that includes tethering?
Thanks,
