Warning - ICS Update Broke Hotspot and USB Tether

ST18a updated this afternoon to the second release of ICS (was using first release previous to this).

USB Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot are no longer working.  I can connect and get an IP address but no internet access.

This is real bad since this is a primary use for my phone.

UPDATE: Confirmed same behavior with a second laptop ... I can connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone but no internet access.

UPDATE: iPad via Wi-Fi Hotspot, same thing, gets IP address but no internet access.

Can anyone else confirm this?  Hotspot and tether is critical to my phone (ST18a - Ray)

I know you "might" done this, but just to make sure, try to repair your phone again and see if the problem persists, don't install any app nor activate any app, just test it again

I was looking for someone to CONFIRM and reproduce the problem.

Do you not have hotspot or data on your phone to try to do this?

Continuing to throw out SUS or PCC repair is a waste of peoples time UNLESS you have yourself reproduced the problem and confirmed that doing a REPAIR FIXES whatever problem you are responding to on these forums.

I can't replicate problem. Just tried with an Xperia ray running on 4.0.4. Works just fine.

So suggesting a software repair wasn't really a bad answer here, but since you say that you have already done that I think it needs to be checked at an repair center.

I took my phone into an AT&T store and put in one of their SIM's which was fully provisioned thinking maybe something happened to my SIM (lost the hotspot/tether provision).

Same thing, devices can connect to the hotspot but they do not get internet access.

I assume your test was on an ST18i   mine is   ST18a    who knows, it might make a difference.

Can anyone else confirm on any model of Xperia if hotspot/tethering was affected by ICS 4.0.4?  Also include how you did the update (PCC or SUS w/ reformat SD card).

Thank you for your testing of this. I assume that you are using an ST18i Ray as Johan probably was.  I am on ST18a   (USA version).  That might be the difference.

I just did a factory reset wiping phone and SD card.  Hotspot still will not work.  Devices can connect, but cannot get out to the internet.

I am going to flash back to Gingerbread, test and work my way back to ICS 4.0.4.

Hello,

I'm confirming the issue (with a european/french version).

I've bought yesterday a brand new Xperia Ray, then upgraded it to the latest Android through PC Companion and the tethering does not work. This is essential for me as well.

Unfortunately, i did not test it with the 2.3 version of Android.

I'll try to downgrade to the previous version using flashtool.

It was working like a charm with my old SE W995...
