Overheating problems with Xperia Z2

I bought my new Sony Xperia Z2 in Bulgaria on the 27-th May. I tested the camera in 4K video and normal mode. I noticed that the phone is getting hot after making some photos and video. When I recorded a 4K video the camera switched off after only 2 minutes with massege Overheating! I saw that many others had the same problem. My question is is there a chance to fix the problem. Can I return the phone and change it with another one?

Problem hit me within 2 hours of having the phone. So I bought an expensive dud. How depressing. Most of the reviewers rave about how good the camera is - I guess they have a vested interested in concealing the truth. In the past Sony was a premium brand noted for quality. All new products fail sometimes. it seems the Z2 fails routinely. Having wasted money on an expensive smartphone on the basis of its allegedly great camera,  I now need to buy a camera separately. At least I will not need to spend time considering the options which have the Sony brand when picking a model!

Have it replaced if you just used it for 2 hours!  Why overreact and buy a separate camera???  Most places give you 15 days no-questions-asked-replacement (and after that, you can go through the warranty process for 1yr).

I had the overheating issue with my camera, sent phone in for repairs, fixed now (well, it still overheats after 7 minutes of 4K recording, but I don't care about 4K, and it's still better than the other phones out there that do 4K for just 5 minutes)

Camera on this thing is phenomenal, by the way, and I have no vested interest.

Hi. my z2 is having issues and always restarts whenever I play a video using screen mirroring on a sony bravia w600b. It restarts after 6-10 minutes. I noticed the phone gets hot. However no problem when I play games dead trigger 2 on high settings for 3-4 hours. I updated to the latest firmware using pc companion but still the same issue. anyone has the same issue?

is is the third topic I visit today and I share the three issues. Overheating is so usual, sometimes the screen is off and when I touch the phone it's burning! I updated the software and it's still happening. I'll visit the sony store to get more informations on this.

@bbatelco: did you send it in for repairs? They were able to really improve mine with some software reload (at least that's what the repair log said). If you if you are expecting the 4k recording to never overheat, however, that's not gonna happen...

Anyone had luck to get your money back for Xperia Z2?

I got mine to the service center due to the overheating and that I cannot use camera to make photos or video for up to about an hour. I got a statement from the service center that the phone is fine and overheating is normal.

Sorry but I don't agree that overhating and misfunction of the camera app is normal. I have been on holiday recently and as the phone got hot during shooting video I could not make any pictures and this has really disturbed me during holiday.

I want my money back.  I got Samsung S5 for few days and its recording in 4K too and has NO issues with continous usage of the camera .

So i wrote a long letter to the CEO of the reseller where I bought the phone and gave it back for guarantee repairment stating that I dont agree with the statement of the service center that this is fine. Hopeing to get my money back so I can buy the S5 instead.

I think my overheating problem is different....see what you think:

My son got a Z2 from EE fantastic phone no issues battery life phenomenal ( 5% loss in 4 hours of moderate use)

He's not big into 4K video so he's not tested it yet BUT...

I received my Z2 from Virgin TODAY. charged it up to 100% and noticed it was unbelievably HOT in the top right hand corner ..front back and top!!

THEN I noticed the battery drain like mad... down to 60% in less than an hour!!!#

Waddya think? Faulty unit?

Reset it to factory, don't load any software, see if it still does this before any software gets downloaded with your profile (ie skip the google signup).  If it does it, then faulty unit.  if not, maybe one of your apps was stuck running at 100%, heating up the CPU and killing the battery.

Good answer. I did try this, however it still heated up and the camera never got to work. Sensible answer though. must be a faulty unit. exchanging via courier tomorrow...thanks again.
