I bought my new Sony Xperia Z2 in Bulgaria on the 27-th May. I tested the camera in 4K video and normal mode. I noticed that the phone is getting hot after making some photos and video. When I recorded a 4K video the camera switched off after only 2 minutes with massege Overheating! I saw that many others had the same problem. My question is is there a chance to fix the problem. Can I return the phone and change it with another one?

Prior to repairs, I could get less than a minute with 4K recording, and about the same time when taking snapshots (in Superior Auto).
Repair report said that they just upgraded the software. Firmware is still the same at .55 (Canada's is quite a bit behind on this).
I'm surprised to say that issue is (largely) fixed! I can do 4K recording for about 7 minutes (room temperature is 22C), and was taking snapshots until I got sick of it (without crashing).
The reason I say surprised is that a. it's the same firmware as before, and prior to sending it in, I was given instructions on how to install the newest firmware through PC Companion and did that (also just reloading the same .55 build which didn't fix the issue). So not sure if they have a better method of reloading the firmware or they actually did something else.
Either way, .55 firmware, overheating issue all but gone (I condsider 7 minutes 4K recording quite acceptable, since I'll never use 4K probably anyways).
One more item to note, I think the phone was hotter once I put my SIM card in it (still not overheating, but I think it was warmer than when just working over WiFi).
well i hope ur issue is resolved. my issue was overheating when the Sim was in too.
With Wifi off. Data was on, on 3g. not even LTE.
My software update didnt fix the issue

I got mine to the service center due to the overheating and that I cannot use camera to make photos or video for up to about an hour. I got a statement from the service center that the phone is fine and overheating is normal.
Sorry but I don't agree that overhating and misfunction of the camera app is normal. I have been on holiday recently and as the phone got hot during shooting video I could not make any pictures and this has really disturbed me during holiday.
I want my money back. I got Samsung S5 for few days and its recording in 4K too and has NO issues with continous usage of the camera .
So i wrote a long letter to the CEO of the reseller where I bought the phone and gave it back for guarantee repairment stating that I dont agree with the statement of the service center that this is fine. Hopeing to get my money back so I can buy the S5 instead.
I got my money back 3 times... well i was able to exchange the ohone 3 times.
1st time for a sony xperia z2, also faulty
2nd time for a sony xperia z2, also faulty
3rd time... HTC One M8 Dual Sim... not faulty
It wasnt an easy exchange, it was a battle that i fought hard.
I never used video recording, let alone 4k. it used to overheat in my pocket

I wonder if a bad SIM card can also affect it? Either way, my problem is not noticeable anymore with the way I use it, so I'm not going to play with the SIM, but it may be something you can try with your cell provider.
Reinstall phone software if it's heating without use, when it heats as you play games or browse web sites it's quite normal and shouldn't harm the device. Heat is connected to 4 cores in use (CPU), when all cores work at once the battery drains faster cause they need some power. In normal use Z2 should use 1 - 2 cores (phone, messages, widgets), so if it heats all the time that means some app blocks the 2 additional cores to standby.

The overheating is draining all my battery 🔋 can anyone tell me what to do?.
1. try to shut it down and restart-maybe an app you installed (or one of the pre-installed apps) is stuck in a loop
2. Try to do a factory reset to see if it's an app that's completely messed-up (or you can uninstall one by one, but if it's one of the pre-installed apps, you'll need to do a factory reset anyways)
3. if still persists, send it in for repairs.
".....in waterproof smartphone", so there are better camera smarphones, but not waterproof.
All of You who have a problem with overheating, try to put your phone into the water to cool it down, since it is advertised as waterproof. Maybe that was a sony's plan.
Hope this one will not be taken literally...:)
