Overheating problems with Xperia Z2

I bought my new Sony Xperia Z2 in Bulgaria on the 27-th May. I tested the camera in 4K video and normal mode. I noticed that the phone is getting hot after making some photos and video. When I recorded a 4K video the camera switched off after only 2 minutes with massege Overheating! I saw that many others had the same problem. My question is is there a chance to fix the problem. Can I return the phone and change it with another one?

Hi Guysi have been doing a lot of search, and it seems it is a hardware limitationthis mainly depend on the cooling mechanizm for the processorhttp://www.talkandroid.com/202862-sony-uses-liquid-heat-pipe-cooling-technology-in-xperia-z2/

So I just received my Z2 back from repairs (camera overheating error).

Prior to repairs, I could get less than a minute with 4K recording, and about the same time when taking snapshots (in Superior Auto).

Repair report said that they just upgraded the software.  Firmware is still the same at .55 (Canada's is quite a bit behind on this).

I'm surprised to say that issue is (largely) fixed!  I can do 4K recording for about 7 minutes (room temperature is 22C), and was taking snapshots until I got sick of it (without crashing).

The reason I say surprised is that a.  it's the same firmware as before, and prior to sending it in, I was given instructions on how to install the newest firmware through PC Companion and did that (also just reloading the same .55 build which didn't fix the issue).  So not sure if they have a better method of reloading the firmware or they actually did something else.

Either way, .55 firmware, overheating issue all but gone (I condsider 7 minutes 4K recording quite acceptable, since I'll never use 4K probably anyways).

One more item to note, I think the phone was hotter once I put my SIM card in it (still not overheating, but I think it was warmer than when just working over WiFi).

Was at my nation's National Day Parade and took near to 50 photos. Not once did the phone overheats and shutdown. Night time fireworks shots were amazing. As for video shooting, didn't try that with the phone but I can tell that my Canon Rebel RL1 does heat up after about 5-7 mins of filming.

Unfortunately my new phone heats up too. I downloaded and played crazy taxi for no more than 5 minutes and the phone was really hot. I stopped playing and let it cool as I am scared this phone screen will crack too.

Haven't tested the camera yet...

I think the Z2 has a safety shutdown feature, where it will turn the phone off if it's overheating.  If your phone didn't shut down, it's probably not overheating, and what you may consider as hot may not be unsafe temperatures for the phone.

Hi hop3y
Are you really using z2. Sony it self is telling. Z2 is tends to heat during 4k video shooting.

Problem hit me within 2 hours of having the phone. So I bought an expensive dud. How depressing. Most of the reviewers rave about how good the camera is - I guess they have a vested interested in concealing the truth. In the past Sony was a premium brand noted for quality. All new products fail sometimes. it seems the Z2 fails routinely. Having wasted money on an expensive smartphone on the basis of its allegedly great camera,  I now need to buy a camera separately. At least I will not need to spend time considering the options which have the Sony brand when picking a model!
