Bluetooth and Wifi Issues

Bluetooth and Wifi Issues

In the last few weeks I've been experiencing frequent issues with my bluetooth and wifi.  My phone forgets my bluetooth headset and I have to resync to get it to work.  As well with my wifi it will have authentication issues with my router.  I often have to restart my phone to fix both the bluetooth and the wifi issues.

This is getting extremely frustrating.  I only bought this phone at the end of August and it's already having issues.

I'm having the exact same issue with a brand new (less than week old) XA1 Ultra where both Bluetooth and Wifi stop working at least daily, sometime more than once a day. My wife also bought one at the same time, but it has no issues at all on the same Wifi network / same car Bluetooth connections. Both are running the latest software updates (42.0.A.4.153).

I've found that turning airplane mode on, then off again gets it working again (much better than rebooting the phone daily), but it's still very annoying.

Hopefully Sony will provide an update soon, or at least Android 8 will hopefully fix it once it's released for the XA1 Ultra.

Update: My wife's phone is now doing the same thing after she connected to a new wifi network (different to any that I use). Two brand new phones, both with same issues. Not very happy with Sony right now.

Hopefully they release an update to fix it soon.

lets try to compare release codes of phones, probably we have different phones (bt&wifi chips inside) which made in different factory/country

Build 42.0.A.4.133

Update from my earlier post:

Changing wifi router settings made no difference as suggested by onbe forum user. Not surprised, as the issue followed the phone, to different routers.

What I have found as being "successful", is that if I turn off Bluetooth, the wifi connects every time. In fact, if my phone is struggling to connect, or I get the 'authentication error', the moment I turn off BT, it connects instantly.

Similarly, issues I had with the Bluetooth connection to my car dropping have been resolved by turning off Wifi when I get into the car.

So it all begs the question: why is this happening, and will it be resolved with the Oreo release in March?

Update - Installed 42.A.0.4. 167

At first I thought the issue might be fixed as it no longer seemed to be dropping out for either Bluetooth or wifi. I haven't had any wifi issues yet since this update, but the Bluetooth is still broken, though in a different way.

Now, it looks like Bluetooth is connected all the time, but I just stop getting notifications to my watch and Bluetooth audio stops making sound with the car, even though it appears to be playing (the track timer counts).

In a way this is even more annoying as now I don't know when it's died, whereas before I did when my watch disconnected.

The fix for me is the same, turn airplane mode on and off.

I really hope this gets fixed with Oreo when it's finally released, otherwise I think I might be getting another new phone soon.

This is a big issue which requires Sony to have a serious look at it and come to a resolution. With the exception of this issue, it's a great phone. If this issue is included, it's crap and I am quite vocal in letting my friends/colleagues know my feelings about Sony phones.

The only way I've found:

  • To allow Bluetooth to consistently work is to turn off WiFi
  • To allow Wifi to consistently work is to turn off Bluetooth
  • To be able to make a data connection (by wireless carrier) when not signed into available adjacent WiFi spots is to turn off WiFi.

Obviously to be able to come up with this list of successful workarounds for Sony product defects has taken me considerable time and effort. If Sony does not successfully resolve these issues, this will be my last Sony phone.

Last night I received an update to my phone (Model # G3223)

Build Number: 42.0.A.4.167 on the Freedom network in Canada.

So far it seems to have resolved my fluctuating connection issues on the mobile network.  As well, as much as I can tell in only just over 12 hours since updating, the wifi and bluetooth issues seem to be resolved.  Will post more if I have any further news, but this is very good news so far!

Hi, I'm having the exact same issue withfew months XA1 Ultra where both Bluetooth and Wifi stop working at least daily running the latest software updates 42.0.A.4.153.

So the latest update probably solve the problem with wifi and bluetooth?

Thanks
