Z5 Premium; Headphone Jack does not Auto-Detect after last update

I've had this issue since the last update/build.  When I plug in headphones, it does not auto-detect and sound continues to come out of the phone speakers.

This is NOT hardware related.  I downloaded 'Sound About' and I can manually turn on my headphone jack and it works fine that way.  But the auto-detect still doesn't work.  This is definitly software related.

I tried this with a dozen headphones and the issue persists.

Do you mean that your device is not detected by your computer? You can still try to perform the software repair, since the device is meant to be turned off during the process and not connected to your computer initially. You can find a great step-by-step guide by clicking here: software repair using Xperia Companion

@kragoth I am very sorry to hear about that. Slightly_frowning_Face In this case I recommend that you get in touch with your Local support in order to have it sent to an authorized service center.

The notification bar at the top of the screen is constantly flickering between a status of headphones plugged in vs headphones not plugged in. Ie it is acting as if I am constantly removing and reinserting them all the time.

I have tried restarting phone and also actually inserting and removing some headphones.

Today I submerged the phone in water for the first time, but it only started playing up hours later.

Hi @Indoc,

Welcome to the community.

If the phone got wet before this happened, then there is likely moisture in the headphone jack that is completing the circuit.

To remove moisture from the headphone jack, shake your device several times with the headphone jack facing downwards and then use a micro-fibre cloth to wipe your device dry. You should then check the USB port area again. If moisture is still visible in the headphone jack, repeat the shaking and drying procedure.

That sounds strange @alien8, I am sorry to hear that. Slightly_frowning_Face

Have you tried to restart your computer and then initiated the process again? Where specifically does it freeze? In addition, could you try to back up one category at the time in order to see which category causes it?

Also check the port for any dust or lint.

Make sure that your phone hasn't accidently gotten rid of this system App: "Headphone Selection"

It communicates with Smart Connect and Sound Enhancement Audio Settings- so if you have either not there - things may not function properly.

I've you've downloaded Smart Key - that's another app it will talk to
