Z5 Premium; Headphone Jack does not Auto-Detect after last update

I've had this issue since the last update/build.  When I plug in headphones, it does not auto-detect and sound continues to come out of the phone speakers.

This is NOT hardware related.  I downloaded 'Sound About' and I can manually turn on my headphone jack and it works fine that way.  But the auto-detect still doesn't work.  This is definitly software related.

I tried this with a dozen headphones and the issue persists.

Test different headphones and check if there is something inside.

Hi @Aldo333, I'm sorry about your phone. Slightly_frowning_Face

I agree with the suggestions posted by @uliwooly, but in addition - could you try to see if the same occurs while in safe mode? Also, just for reference, could you try clearing data for the Smart connect app? You may do so by going to Settings > Apps > Smart connect > Storage > Clear data.

Let me know how it went! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi, Emir. from your experience what do you recommend? is it a software related issue or a hardware related issue.

i am using Z5 premium on vodafone network in the UK. i have tried all the possible solutions including repairing the software and trying rebooting in safe mode! as everyone said that using ''soundabout'' makes it work, i tried it too and it worked, so apparently it's something to do with the drivers?? but when I refurbished my software the missing driver was still not available! what do you say is the root cause, because sony might be aware of the cause now after addressing issues in 1000s of devices. thanks

Hi @Nanhasharma, I'm so sorry about that. Slightly_frowning_Face

I would recommend that you have your device sent to an authorized service center in order to have it looked at by a technician. I'm afraid I do not know if it is related to the hard- or software in your specific case, but if a software repair did not help then there is not much else for you to try by yourself.

The easiest way to have your device sent to service is by getting in touch with your Local support and asking them to assist you in doing so. I wish I could assist you with that, but since I'm situated in the Nordics I do not know how the local service routines look like in your market. Slightly_frowning_Face

according to my experiences its about headset jack slot. İts mean problem is hardwear problem. when I whirl around the jack disconnet is appears. ı am so sad about this problem. its is known most aged technology on phone but it has comman problam. headset jack must not to be so hard produce  with no problem. what a pity it has chronic problem because its have so thin and weak copper pin.

Do not try to touch pins with any needle or pick. Pins are really very fragile

I'm sorry to hear that you experienced such behaviour @cxaner. Slightly_frowning_Face

I would recommend to have it sent to an authorized service center if you suspect that it's hardware related, so that a technician can have a look at it for you. The easiest way to be assisted in sending it in would be to get in touch with your Local support so that they can assist you in doing so.

Has anyone successfully sent their device to the local tech center and received it without further headphone issues?

As stated above, I have the same issue. Headphone port isn't working, only works when I use the soundabout app. I attempted rebooting the device in safe mode, regular mode etc etc.

Using soundabout has helped, but I am wondering if anyone who has encountered this isssue has resolved it without the use of 3rd party apps

Hi @rheosibal, I suspect that you were hoping for a user to reply but I hope it's okay to hear my thoughts too until a different user gets back to you?

I have personally not heard of any user which has experienced this, that sent his device in for servicing that did receive his device back after a repair and still had the behaviour present in his device. With this in mind, my personal recommendation would be to have it sent to an authorized service center so that a technician may have a look at it for you! Slightly_smiling_Face
