So after accepting an update from Sony which I assumed was an addition to the new nougat software (which was already installed) my phone no longer turns on.
I know that 5min after the successful install of this update (no idea what it was) I received an miss call and message, So i know everything was good up to this point. After attempting to turn on my phone to check who it was the screen remained black. Only a white led flash in the top corner of the phone (indicating I had a notification).
What I've tried.
- Reset (power button and volume key).
- I did get three vibration after 10ish seconds then pressed the power button with no luck.
- 2 minute hold power button trick. Still nothing.
- Used different power sockets and USB cords. Nothing, not even a charge indication. (phone was already 80% and charging when this happened)
- Re-seated sim tray and SD card. Nothing
- Connected phone to PC (for the PC comparison fix) however nothing happens. Phone remains with a black screen and PC doesn't even recognize anything being connected.
Any assistance with this issued from the community more specifically Sony would be great.
PS: this phone is 1 year and 3 days old aka no longer under warranty.
That seems to be a hardware issue, since this is a user based forum, you should contact Sony directly Local support
Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear about this.
I just want to say that PC Companion is no longer supported so I recommend you try a software repair using Xperia Companion before you contact your Local support team.
what was the update? i received a "software update" update, which i think was for the software update software.
Hi @CameronT
So I've downloaded Xperia Companion. It has gone as far as holding the volume down button and connecting it to the PC. After about 15sec the PC gives me an error and the program does not proceed to the next step.
Error on PC reads:
"The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."
Hi Martin20,
I wish I could remember what it was. I know it was not app related more system related update.
The error seems more like a windows error than an Xperia Companion one. What version of windows are you using?
Try using a different USB cable and a different USB port.
Windows 10 (current release version)
Xperia Companion V 1.4.7.0
Ive tried different PC ports and USB cables.
The phone seems completely dead. No charge indications, no led indications for anything. I'm starting to lean towards the update destroying the battery...
I am sorry that you're having trouble with this
If you cannot complete the software repair the best option I can advise is to get in touch with your Local support team and arrange an assessment.
