WiFi slow after some minutes

Hi all,

I have problems with my WiFi speed. First I found youtube to load videos quite slowly. After that I used "Oookla Speedtest" to check network speed. I have 6MBit DSL-connection at home, but if I use the speedtest after the WiFi has been switched on for some minutes, I only get ~1Mbits on the Xperia Z3 compact. If I switch WiFi off and on again on the phone, I get the expected ~5Mbits. This happens not only at home, but also at work and at my parents house. WiFi router types are different in all the 3 places.

The problem persists even If I stand 1m away from the router. WiFi reception is shown to be very good on the phone. My old iPhone 4S does not have this problem. Since turning off and on WiFi on the Z3 compact solves that problem for some minutes, I blame it on the phone itself. I already tried turning off and on the phone, as well as factory reset. Problem persists. Any hints?

Thanks a lot!

Hi

I've had the new X3C for three weeks now and also noticed how the youtube app was slow in downloading video clips, yet when I switched for 4G everything ran smoothly.

I have to be honest, I cannot follow all the discussions on this forum thread - too technical for me! But if somebody could explain to me how measure what speed my wifi is at home with my phone, that would be a good start - much appreciated.

If there's an easy solution to this please let me know.

Kind regards

Hi V3RGY,

search for "speedtest.net" on the playstore. You can use this app for testing your wifi speed at home.

Hey have the same prob here. Running a 100/10 cable - tested ookla with laptop, asus transformer and an iphone 5. Tests end up at around 90 - 100mbits.

But my Z3c just gets to 10-15mbits. Tested everything you guys are saying, but only thing that works is enable/disable wireless.

If i use my 4G connection the phone loads everything instant. Feels like 1 second whatever im loading. If its facebook app pages, chrome internett sites or even youtube. Loads instant..

But on wifi, djees. It drives me mad. Can go up to 30 seconds just to load an internett site. Youtube videoes can just suddenly stop and start to buffer and so on.

Have restored the phone, tryed it on different wifi locations. Even at my university i get scores just below 10mbit. And yeah another thing, these mbits are not stable for one second. The tests can jump all from 0,2 to 26 mbits with only seconds apart, and back to 0,2 and so on... But i say 10-15 because at the end, this is what ookla reporst as final score.

Have tryed all the settings also, but nothing seems to work to fix this. And yeah the signal strength is at max..

So please share if you guys find something. But i think this is a prob in the z3c config or system files. Hot fix please ? Grinning_Face

If your problems disappear when you switch off mobile data, after that disable and reenable WiFi again, then there is nothing else you can do but to wait for an update, as ist is not a particular problem of the Z3/Z3C, but an Android problem in general. The bug is fixed in the Android repository, but seems as it not made its way to release yet. Switch mobile data off while you´re on WiFi, that helps as the problem is directly tied to the mobile data network.

If your problem persists after switching mobile data off and toggle the WiFi, then you might have a different problem.

Hmm, I think my phone has another problem. None of the solutions get my wifi working regularly. Even worse, my mobile data has stopped working too. It stopped working last night, and this morning I did a factory reset and it worked for about 20 minutes before failing again.

The cause of this has been identified and is fixed in the next SW release (23.0.1.A.5.xx).

Thanks again noize for testing and providing us with logs.
