Hello, since this phone is waterproof i wanted to try it under water, and when i putted it under water, while all the slots were closed properly and there was also a phone cover protecting it, my phone turned off and from then it didnt switch on again also after i pressed the power button like 10 times
Just under a week from the date I posted it, repair has been done under warranty (postage was free too).
i sent mine August 25 still no news from sony center. have you recieved your phone?
Received the phone Thursday, new screen and the main body is new too (mine had a mark where I had dropped it), the only thing which looks the same is the back. Also interesting to notice the waterproof seals are different, my original had grey one piece seals, these new ones are black.
Yes one of my water stickers had turned red.
Hi, I have the same problem, underwater shots taken for a few minutes max 20 cm deep, then it turned off. The micro sd card got soaked. All openings were tightly closed. Then I read on the product website in case water detected inside, either behind the tabs or at the battery the warranty would be void. Obviously Sony wants to claim we left the slots open.
I decided to dry the device out, first blowing in compressed air through the slots ( relatively large amount of water came out) then by using an electric fan heater blowing hot air about 40 deg C for 3 hrs through the sim slot, then for 3 hrs through the sd card/usb slots. Camera decondensation disappeared, the phone started, everything is functioning, but the battery won't charge. It is saying charger is connected, but it does not pick up electricity. I think water short circuited the battery pins, so I sent back for repair under warranty.
I do not know what they will say but I feel we are fooled, this phone is not waterproof!!!
I agree, lets get our money back
I have in mind putting up an excel sheet on google drive which would be public so that everyone can report his/her case. At least we would have an overview about the cases and resolutions.
In the meantime I advise to newly harmed buyers not to put the phone on charger once it shuts down due to suspected water damage. Try to dry out as quickly as possible with similar methods I wrote above. Make sure it is completely dry inside before turned on or charged. I advise this because the warranty will be void as soon as water is detected in the phone, so in case repair under warranty is rejected by Sony you can minimize the repair cost. Maybe only the battery will need to be replaced as this is the only component that cannot be turned off when it gets water so most likely pos and neg poles will be short circuited which kills the battery. Other components may survive as the phone switches off once water gets inside. Mine was fully functioning after drying, apart from the battery charging.
If a manufacturer specifies a product being water resistant, in this case max 1.5m for 30 min, that product must remain functional provided those circumstances are not exceeded. If it does not function according to the specs, the product is faulty or it has a design failure. It is as simple as that. If Sony did not say Xperia is waterproof no one would take the phone under water, it is obvious.
