Sony Xperia Z1 2G Voice Call breaking with echo

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have been experiencing a peculiar issue with my xperia z1 [IMEI removed] after it got OTA upgrade to 14.5.A.0.270 that I would like to bring to your notice.

The voice quality during call in GSM mode is found deteriorated. Although I can hear the other person properly but the person from the other end can't hear me properly. Outgoing voice always breaks and generates echoes or waves. The problem instantly disappears if I change to WCDMA mode from GSM. In GSM also the problem disappears if I use a headphone or bluetooth headphone instead of built in mic. But in wcdma mode built in mic also works fine.

I am really disappointed as this can't be expected from a leading pioneer electronics goods provider like sony that also with a flagship product like xperia z 1. I have visited service centre also, reinstalled software but same problem persists.

After going through internet I came to know that many users are experiencing the same issue. I would like to request you kindly provide required and appropriate resolution by attending the issue at the earliest.

The issue is fixed in 14.6.A.0.368 so please try to update your phone.

Am facing this exact same issue with my Z1 compact after the update to14.5.A.0.270. Outgoing call is broken with echo as reported by person on the other side of the call. Sony pls do something fast. It is ironical that the basic 'phone' part of this smartphone is not working reliably.

Hi,

I have the exact same issue after software update! Its insane! I feel so unprofessional because I cant talk to clients! Ive tried everything and nothing seems to work.

Ive also noticed that my phone powers down at 40% battery!

This new OS is crappy!

Please fix this today!

Wonder how many more of 'I-too-have-the-exact-same- issue' posts are needed on this forum before someone from Sony support takes accountability to respond?

I switched from Lenovo to Sony Xperia thinking that it is a premium brand (particularly after similar issues of degradation of phone features after so called upgrades). Sadly Sony seems to be no different (or should I say equally indifferent)

Have tried all workarounds suggested on this forum so far for this issue viz

1. Phone reset using PCC
2. Turning off the useless noise-supression and speaker enhancement.
3. Switching to WCDMA-only mode

Havent visited Service Center yet. As of now it seems to be my last hope before giving up on this brand. Planning to do so next week. If that too doesn't work then Sony=Any-other-cheap-china-brand-that-are-available-at-less-than-half-of-Sony's-pricing.

Sorry to say all this but just Cant help keep feeling disgusted whenever(which is almost always in the last 3 weeks, since the hopeless upgrade) I hear 'your-voice-cracking' response from the person on the other side of the call

The same problem. It is strange to me that Sony did not enroll new update which would fix those problems.

And my phone also turns off when reaches 40%!

I have exactly the same problem and is very annoying to speak and the person from the other side of the line to make fun of you saying that I am heard like I am in a cannon!

What's going on - can hear calls to my phone perfectly, but my calls to other phones break up, get warble effect sounds and wave like noises. This makes calling from this expensive phone virtually impossible! Please advise.

Try clearing data and cache from both phone apps (under all apps) and forcing a stop. turn the phone off and on again. this cleared the issue on my z1c.
