Check the XDA Forum, although I don't recall any method w/o unlocking the bootloader w/ the latest update.

Yeah I had "rooted" my Z on v4.4.2 using TowelRoot thus allowing me to install Avast AntiVirus/Firewall/Antitheft and Titanium Backup to protect my phone.

Upgraded (debatable) to v4.4.4 and found I no longer had root access and Avast AntiTheft had been uninstalled !!!

What a **bleep** upgrade.

Why is it that the most important thing to do is to protect your phone and yet it is made so difficult to do ?

As of yet TowelRoot had not yet been redeveloped to give back the root access.
