I got it again, going to the store on monday. But maybe I am not taking the chance on getting another Z1. I love the phone and SONY has always been for quality, but I can't have a phone I regularily have to reboot and pay tons of data bills for when the WIFI drops out.

Guys try using the phone with the box "Adapt to lighting conditions" unchecked. Report your results so we can give the people proper advice and most importantly help SONY detect the bug.

They should know by now, that there is probably a race condition in their code leading to this problem. I will turn it off though. But a race condition is tricky. It can come back in an hour, or in 2 weeks. And I don't have that long.

I have not updated my phone to 534 still on 518 and my adapt to lighting conditions is unchecked. Till now i din't face any problem and my wifi, BT and mobile data is in use on daily basis. I was using this phone from 4 Oct .

Got the phone just 2 days back... It was working fine until a point when during normal work I switched on the WiFi and it gave some sound and the screen went black. There was still minute amount of brightness in the backgroud and the phone wasn't actually shut down. Tried plugging the charger and using the power off button but nothing happened.

Found out about the red reset button inside micro-sim slot and forced shut down. After which the phone started fine and working.

My backlight optimization was on but bluetooth was off.

IS THERE A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS PROBEM???

Come On SONY WAKE UP, FIX THE RUDDY ISSUES.  I have had it 4 times now, and this is after replacing my Z1 twice due to charging problems.

Same problem over here in Germany. Just got the machine yesterday. Screen stayed "ghost lit". During charging and normal use. I changed an optimised display setting and the phone went dark. I removed the SIM card and the phone restarted. Replaced it and entered the PIN. Works fine now. Had to kill some bits in the text input menu in order for the phone to recognise my texting between English and German. Even the apps store acted better. It wouldn't find some of the apps I have on my HTC One. Now it's ok. Is this phone haunted? Anyway, I repeat... I removed and replaced my SIM card and it worked. I hope you people have SIM cards... I know a lot of American phones don't. Hopefully Sony will address this problem promptly with the next update.

Happened to me also. Just press power botton + sound volume  at same time and phone will make a reset . Just power on again.

hope that this helps....

I have had this problem too..
I've got a solution for it! Just take out your SIM, and then it'll work again!
