Xperia X8 with Android 2.2 and above?

Hi,

I own the amazing K750i, still in love with the phone but planning to upgrade to a many-in-one device.

I don't want to carry a music player, GPS, camera, FM radio and phone as separate devices and I found X8 as one of the few phones which looks good as well as have all the mentioned functions available for a reasonable rate. (I read others are kind of hyped, tying to keep up with the selling price of iPhone).

K750i was good because I could customize it a lot.

But Alas!! Android 1.6 for Xperia X8?

Questions:

1. Is upgrade possible to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above? (2.1 is still not good as I cannot move apps to SD card)

    (For K750i I got 2 firmware updates at least!!)

2. Can multiple playlists be created for the music you have on the phone? (I hear music from around 6 different languages)

3. Is there a limit on the number of applications that can be installed? (Other that internal memory (128MB) which 2.2 or above can solve)

4. Will there be a X8 Pro or something of that sort soon for a slightly higher price tag? (Possibly a black model with 2.2 and a camera flash +)

    (I know this cannot be answered now, but out of curiosity...)

5. With there be more talk time and standby time with Android 2.1 and above?

Hi Robbie,

In the first place why SE did not come out openly about the upgrade not available for 2.1 before even selling the phone in the market. If there were so true, they should have made it clear to the customer that he's buying a phone which has hardware limitations and cannot be upgraded in the future .

They will sell the phones ( making everyone believe that SE will provide the software updates ) and then after getting a good profit, they just go to the next model of the phone leaving the old ones in the dark, so bad about SE.

What they give is a 256MB RAM for a phone which is worse, why didn't they make it as 1 or 2GB default RAM so that we could have been with the stock ROM with the available memory.

Other competitors who are less priced are giving software updates while we X8 owners are left behind without any advanced features for the price we paid

Finally, if you want to enjoy your X8 ( it has excellent hardware ), then go for custom ROM, don't worry about the warranty. The custom ROM's are stable and have all the features and work like a charm, you could also move apps to sd card and vice versa which SE overlooked even this simple thing.

The stock camera and music sucks in 2.1.1 stock rom, but with this customised ROM, both are super cool and can challenge any latest SP in the market.

ive had an xperia x8 for a whil now and ihave to say its kind of underwhelming without 2.2.

if xda can roll out a 2.2 dowload for x8. and they can use the time they have to do it why can se?

well , even if they are busy with other updates, can we at least get an update to move apps to sd.

also, i see the pracitality of the adapted homescreen, but it realy disapoints me, its not the true android, and yes, i know it would be hard to navigate and would have to have tiny widgets to have them "true to scale" but i just think its pointless, if you get a small phone isnt that what you expect. and the same for the homescreen, i just despise it. ( why cant i see the true android ).

on another note i refuse to root my phone to get a custom rom and other stuff, i know multiple people who have bricked thier phone through rooting. so yeah..

sony ericsson, i am dissapointed                                (sorry!)

but i guess we might as well sit tight and ride it out. If SE isnt going to bring out 2.2 and we cant change their minds. then thats it. (well that was pessimistic).

Could u tell me...How can i update androi 2.1 to 2.3 ..Because i dont know how to upgrade..Im new user for android phones..Please tell that in step by step...Awaiting for ur replyy.!:smileyblush:

hi i have recently bought a x8 and i have important apps that i need for my work but my latest update is 2.1 update 1 can anyone let me no how to update to 2.2 as all i need is to be able to move my apps on to my sd card i dont care about anything else i have a 16gb card plz help me out and i need the normal way i am not risking one thats not by sony ericsson so plz let me know thanks

there will no longer be sony ericsson, just sony after this. i'm quite happy about that even i feel so dissapointed. so guys (users), should we begging about this?

i haven't rooted my phone until my friend bought his. the same phone, x8. the reason why i didn't because i bought an original one. but yeah, after several months, i can't stand watching him transfer this and that to memory card, then i rooted it myself. i agree with some views that says, xda can develop many kinds of custom roms, why can't se? that is a five star question! why can't se build for us?

later then, i knew that my Andy (android phone) is in the first family, the Xperia 2010 Family. so it will be like an experiment on how to produce an android phone. (understands) duhh i just hope whatever phone that you guys produce in 2011 will have an update to taste the new android 4.0 or ics.
