Hi,
I own the amazing K750i, still in love with the phone but planning to upgrade to a many-in-one device.
I don't want to carry a music player, GPS, camera, FM radio and phone as separate devices and I found X8 as one of the few phones which looks good as well as have all the mentioned functions available for a reasonable rate. (I read others are kind of hyped, tying to keep up with the selling price of iPhone).
K750i was good because I could customize it a lot.
But Alas!! Android 1.6 for Xperia X8?
Questions:
1. Is upgrade possible to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above? (2.1 is still not good as I cannot move apps to SD card)
(For K750i I got 2 firmware updates at least!!)
2. Can multiple playlists be created for the music you have on the phone? (I hear music from around 6 different languages)
3. Is there a limit on the number of applications that can be installed? (Other that internal memory (128MB) which 2.2 or above can solve)
4. Will there be a X8 Pro or something of that sort soon for a slightly higher price tag? (Possibly a black model with 2.2 and a camera flash +)
(I know this cannot be answered now, but out of curiosity...)
5. With there be more talk time and standby time with Android 2.1 and above?
Regards,
Winny

Desmond, Apps2SD is not any application that you could download from the market. It is a short form for ( option to transfer applications from phone mem to SD card ). This feature is not available in android ver 2.1 in xperia 8 and SE are not releasing the next update ( heard that SE have decided not to release any upgrade to this version from others in this forum ) The only other option left for us is to root the phone. Read the reply from Anix8 to get more details for this.
may i know what meaning is root? i juz dont know about android , i want to learn , please help me, thanks.....
just think of a computer that has 2 accounts 1) administrator 2) restricted user, by default you are a restricted user, but if you root you change your account to an administrator account (its the best example I can come up with), thus allowing you to do/install/delete certain features you werent before
Hi, sorry for the delayed response. cyanogenmod has a list of devices for which they have listed stable ROMs. Not a single SE model is listed. so got this from xda developers where they have tweaked this ROM specifically for the X8.
The ROm was very stable except for the GPS and FM, until I installed some app now I have force closes but what the ...
The best past is xrecovery which backs up the entire phone so I am happy knowing that i can restore to the stable mode whenever i want.
Just remebr to backup every once a week so you can restore as you would with any windows pc. oh yes you should do a xrecovery backup before you install gingerbread so that you can just undo if you are not happy.
Remember after you root first get xrecovery installed. weekly backups very important.
There's no try Yoda

I understand that after rooting the phone and upgrading to gingerbread, you are facing issues like losing the feature of GPS and FM and also when trying to install other apps the phone kinda freezes.
So, let me clear myself before i try this one on my phone.
After the upgrade to gingerbread is the phone hanging/freezing and any other specific problems that you have noticed.
How frequently you are required to run the xrecovery.
I am a little scared to do the rooting and other stuff that it may cause more damage than giving peace to us. That's why i wan't to be absolutely sure before i take that step.
I appreciate your reply and help.
SOMEBODY HELP ME. PLEASE!!!! WIFI PROBLEM.....
nice sharing thanks.............
I have bought Xperia X8 few days from action in my mobile operator and I am happy to use it. It is installed with Android 2.1. But reading that the upgrade to higher version is not planned is a thing which is really disapointing me. Everyone interested in X8 and Android 2.2, 2.3 knows that it is technicaly possible and it can really improve phone. I would really expect from such company like Sony Ericsson better support.
I know how you are feeling Gabewas, I was also in this sorry state mid of July after i bought this phone without checking online forums.
I was so confident of SE that they will provide a good product with all features and upgrades, but the truth struck on the next day when i registered into this forum.
Can't help much now. What to do ? we are destined to have this Lemon and we cannot re-sell it as it will not fetch the price we paid ( not in India )
May be in US I heard that we could return the phone within 2 weeks saying that we are not satisfied with the product and get our money back.
The only thing we could do now is to show our anger against SE by deciding the next phone will not be SE and also spreading the word of don't buy SE phones in the future.
Here is a link for a SE survey that came to my mail today which i completed.
Now, I request all in this forum to vent their anger against SE by giving lowest ratings by taking this survey.
