Wifi problem after ICS update

Hi,

I have this problem, that when I connect to the internet with my Xperia P throu wifi it will connect but after a minute it will not load pages anymore.

Everything works fine when connecting to the internet with DATA TRAFFIC.....what should i do?

Please help - everything was fine before with Gingerbread.

I updated to ICS yesterday on the 24th/aug.12.

Would it help if i repair the firmware? - and when repairing will all my previously installed Apps be deleted?

I'm from Estonia!

Best regards,

Thank you....
Mario

I have problem with wifi too, my xperia P with ICS 4.0.4 build 6.1.B.0.544 don't work with my Buffalo Router with WPA2.

After the authentication works for a few seconds then stays connected but the network does not work anymore.

I buyed it two days ago, my first Sony smartphone, i'm really sad and disappointed!

Yep...sounds like you are hitting the same bug. I was assured that the network capture I did was submitted to the Sony wi-fi engineers but haven't heard back from them since. I would just like to hear that they at least acknowledge the bug and are working on a fix.

Also wrote to the xperia blog guys asking them to bring the issue to the forefront but it being an xperia fan site I am not sure if they will bother posting about a problem with the ICS firmware.

I would really like to keep the phone since the design is great but no wi-fi is a deal breaker and sadly if nothing is done in the immediate future I would have to ebay the phone and look for another device...

I have the same problem with my xperia p since ICS 4.0.4 on GB everything worked.

The Router is a FritzBox 7390.

Try to disable 802.11n+b+g, after I switched to 802.11b+g everything works fine again, but this is no longterm option. I hope they fix it soon.

4ndreas,

I saw the problem with that particular router model discussed on this German forum. It does affect also other makes and models as you can see from the previous posts and in some cases it even interferes with other devices connected to the router. We have a network of enterprise grade access points and are affected as well.

You are absolutely right - it needs to be fixed. changing the settings on a router is a limited workaround at best. You can get away with that at home but won't have that option at places that offer free wi-fi such as airports and libraries for example...

One of the posters at the German forum managed to get a reply from Sony regarding this issue:

"Das Problem ist uns bekannt, derzeit lässt sich das Gerät im Draft N Modus nicht nutzen. Diese Funktion wird mit einem der nächsten Updates wieder möglich sein."

Google translates this to:

The problem is known to us, at present, the device can not use the Draft N mode. This function is one of the next updates again be possible.

And of course when these next updates are coming is not specified... Not sure if this is the same issue that we are facing as many (including myself) can use the device with certain routers in n mode...

If any of the Sony support moderators can provide some information regarding the upcoming fix release date (or at least a rough guesstimate) it would be much appreciated!

Nice find iproute! The router I'm having trouble with has the draft N version so it sounds like the same issue to me.

And yeah, it'd be great to have some input from the moderators on this issue. The lack of communication so far is a bit frustrating. Even if they post here to acknowledge that it's an issue or tell us that they're looking into it would help a lot. And of course a guesstimate of the next release would be nice too!

If you could just read before you write you could’ve find the solution ten days ago, its temporary but it’s a solution.

SamirSami, I knew about the temporary solution. I'm referrering to the fact that iproute found a post where sony has actually acknowledged the issue as there has been nothing posted here already. Also the information that it's draft N rather than the final N version seems to explain why some N routers work and others don't.

Are you sure about the wifi n?

My router, a Buffalo WBMR-HP-G300H (http://www.buffalo-asia.com/cgi-bin/products/detail.cgi?country=sg&code=4&id=541) is a IEEE802.11n Standard and not a draft-n, but i have the wifi problem.

I'm not sure if with the stock firmware i can set only the wifi g, maybe i can with the dd-wrt or open wrt custom firmware, but seriously  i have to do it for use my brand new phone?

I have to wait a new ics update like all Slightly_smiling_Face

I’m not sure if it’s a (Draft N or Standard N) problem, I already tried several routers with no luck, ether its Draft or Standard, N is not working with my Xperia P, I tried Linksys, TP Link and Netgear.
