Wifi problem after ICS update

Hi,

I have this problem, that when I connect to the internet with my Xperia P throu wifi it will connect but after a minute it will not load pages anymore.

Everything works fine when connecting to the internet with DATA TRAFFIC.....what should i do?

Please help - everything was fine before with Gingerbread.

I updated to ICS yesterday on the 24th/aug.12.

Would it help if i repair the firmware? - and when repairing will all my previously installed Apps be deleted?

I'm from Estonia!

Best regards,

Thank you....
Mario

I think it is no draft n problem, because my FritzBox 7390 is an n not an draft n device.

Is it possible to force b/g wlan on the phone, so you can still use the faster n for other devices ?

This morning PCC is unable to reach the Sony servers for some reason. I am hoping that the reason is Sony prepping a bugfix update for our phones Slightly_smiling_Face

I also downloaded the Android SDK and will look into the issue further. It has an application called Dalvik Debug Monitor Server which when you put your phone in USB debug mode lets you see everything that happens on the phone... Already saw some wireless events but as you can imagine there is a LOT of data and it will take time to filter out the "junk" Slightly_smiling_Face

Installed the Android SDK and enabled usb debugging.

When traffic comes to a screeching halt I see this recurring message:

9-18 10:43:00.315: D/wpa_supplicant(1940): Command received: SIGNAL_POLL

09-18 10:43:00.315: D/wpa_supplicant(1940): nl80211: survey data missing!

09-18 10:43:03.328: E/wpa_supplicant(1940): RX ctrl_iface - hexdump_ascii(len=11):

09-18 10:43:03.328: E/wpa_supplicant(1940):      53 49 47 4e 41 4c 5f 50 4f 4c 4c                  SIGNAL_POLL

Too busy at the moment to decipher what that means and if it points to something relevant so if anyone feels so inclined - it's also posted on pastebin.

Also no word from Sony on the network trace but there's newly certified firmware - 6.1.B.0.559 which hopefully will be available soon and have a bugfix for this issue...

Sent the logcat trace to the Sony moderator and hopefully he'll be kind enough to forward it to the engineers.

Meanwhile while trying to find any reference to the wpa_supplicant errors I stumbled on these:

http://support.t-mobile.com/message/152763

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599459

I also found references to various linux flavors having similar wireless problems which is not surprising as Android is linux based...

Still researching...

Well done iproute, thanks for the information - after having factory reset and reinstalled ICS many times on a new (o2) Xperia P without success, by simply switching from wireless b/g/n to b/g on my BT Home Hub 3 router WiFi problem was solved Slightly_smiling_Face A temporary workaround, hopefully for not too long as "n" speeds make noticeable differences for the rest of my equipment in the house!

Thanks Nirmy.

I also have very encouraging news - the Sony support moderator that I am in contact with will forward the log file and he ensured me that the engineers are looking at the wifi issue at the moment.

In terms of the 6.1.B.0.559 update I was able to find the excerpt below from this Itallian blog. Not sure how reliable it is and where they source their information from...

"Sony has just released a new update for the phone Xperia P, one of the models that have the largest market share of all that was in the Japanese market. Not confirmed when it will reach all countries, but indicated that in each of them, without exception.

This update does not offer the arrival of the new operating system Android 4.1, and is an improvement of Ice Cream Sandwich. The new version of firmware is 6.1.B.0.559, that in some places replace the 6 .1. B.0.544 that Android was introduced four months ago in the model Sony Xperia P. Of course, and as usual, the improvement comes via OTA (Over The Air), so installation is simple.

update confident

This firmware update Sony Xperia P is certified by PTCRB, so it is completely reliable. And, just this, it can be indicative for the next update in reaching users between 10 and 15 days, which is usually the standard protocol ... although some sources indicate that his arrival might be imminent, because one of the things I have tried to correct the problems of the screen sometimes remains virtually "frozen".

Besides the usual bug fixes and small improvements in performance, not always very clear, it seems that one of the most noticeable is that the Wi-Fi connectivity is much better, enhancing stability during the transfer of data and also expanding coverage . It seems that with the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich has been lost efficiency in terms of wireless connectivity."

The Xperia tablet S apparently also had an issue with wifi (not necessarily the same) but fix was released yesterday... Hoping that our phone is the next one in line Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi Johan,

I've got the same problem connecting to WiFi networks after upgrading my Xperia P to Android 4.0.4 a few days ago.

It happens on WPA2 protected networks only; unprotected networks work fine. The password contains special characters. The phone keeps obtaining an IP address and never connects. It changes to bad signal strength even though I sit right beside the router.

Changing the router settings is not an option since it is a company network. The same network settings worked fine under the previous version of Android.

Best regards.

PS

I've got Android 6.1.B.0.544 installed. I've read iproute's post above and checked Sony PC Companion, but no version 6.1.B.0.559 available yet.

It occurs with wifi with no encryption settings also.

My company have open wifi, only after connectng to wifi it asks for username and password.

But nonetheless, it's an issue which is not letting us experience to the maximum Slightly_frowning_Face
