Update 6.0 Contacts Lost

I updated my phone and all my personal contacts that were saved to phone have vanished, I just have number in history. Nothing else. Tried going to apps and contacts force stop clear data etc doesn't work. HELP

were the contacts stored with a particular app or just the phone? did you performed a clean update, which means everything was deleted?

They were just stored on the phone. I've tried the filter and no joy grrrrr.

I updated to Android 6.0 and contacts lost. Only have the ones on my Gmail.

Sorry for sounding thick but what do you mean when you say clean do you mean as in no problems updating? If so, yes it was.

If you update your phone through XC (Xperia Companion) you will have 2 options either to update the phone w/o deleting everything on your phone (internal storage) or a clean update, which will wipe out everything from the phone.

Sorry just read your previous message, no I didn't perform clean update, I just clicked on the update icon.

I just did it on my device not through pc companion hence I'm confused why they have vanished. Spent hours on Google searching for answers.
