hi,
i got my xperia z during the month of march 2013.
i started experiencing problems with my ear speaker during the past 10 days.
it has never before given me any cause for worry so i thought maybe there was some problem in handling the phone from my side. i put it inside a jar of rice thinking whether sweat might have seeped in accidentally.
even after that, i still faced problems with it at random times when i was taking calls [when i tried xperia diagnostics it passed a few times and failed a few times].
i took it to the service centre closest to my location at bangalore, india. they said if this was a major problem then my phone would be replaced and i would get a new handset.
they did offer me a new handset yesterday [it was handed to me in a white box with nothing to protect it from scratches] , which never recognized the sim card from my original phone and this piece had scratches all over it.
when i asked about the scratches, the service representative said that i was lucky to have so few scratches i could only iagine what the other phones she mentioned looked like
i spoke to the supervisor as well about this new "replacement phone" that was given to me, he immediately got a work order ready and took back the phone.
i told him that i was unhappy and scared that my newly "replaced" phone wouldnt have the water resistance feature due to such bad conditions of the phone and asked him whether he could sprinkle some water over the phone just to prove its water resistance, he flew into a fury and started telling me how its not "waterproof" and etc...
well i think the motto "make, believe" just went into the drain when their own employees dont believe in their products
lets just hope my sad story becomes a happy one when the next phone they give me is atleast in a decent conditon
which i believe would never happen
Thank you SONY for after all the products i have bought from your company i am given such a headache and emotional stress.
is there any way that i could be given my original phone back if i post my IMEI number?
i could keep that original phone in mint condition at home and maybe go for any of the phone from the galaxy S series
Regards

On the paper that I got back from the service center says:
"Problem with ear speaker detected. Ear speaker replaced. Testing passed. Software upgrade to new version."
It was strange to me too how they can replace ear speaker, since the phone is one piece, but obviously they can. Beside that, they upgraded my Xperia/Android software version to latest available -> Android version: 4.3 Build number: 10.4.1.B.0.101.
As I already stated earlier, phone is working perfectly ever since!!
Phone was serviced in Zagreb, Croatia in one week time, so obviously they know their job very well
So my earpiece isnt working again after reclamation. I found that when if you push it little bit, its work again. There is malfunction somewhere in contacts between mainboard and earpiece. But pushing on it isnt grat idea, because I pushed it little bit to hear my phonecall, and my display cracked...
Dear Sony, to be honest Xperia Z is disapointment. I thought that if I already own Sony DSLR, earphones, Actioncam, I will be satisfied with your mobile too. Buit I am not! 2. reclamation on fatal hardware failure (what should phone has to do better than phonecalls) is really **bleep**ty for 1/2 year old TOP MODEL smartphone... Now, Samsung or even iPhone looks better to me... I will be very happy if someone from sony will respond.

Same here, but I twist the phone (pry it) the get the speaker to work again...
Really disapointed in this Sony High end phone... Will consider this when bying my next phone.
Same problem

I got internal speaker problem solved. Please use soundabout app. In that app there is Option phone call audio change it to "earpiece" . Default is "let app decide" but you need to purchase the app. you need to install pro version. Shall I send you link? I have visited Sony service centre for this but they told me to replace mobile and would cost half of mobile price. But this workaround solved my problem. I think you should give a try for pro version. Please share your experience.
My Xperia Z C6602 was the same. I am not sure if I take it to Xperia service center, the problem will be fixed. Suggested by installing SoundAbout Pro app doesn't work in Jelly Bean 4.3 or KitKat 4.4.2, I've tried, now I am in KitKat 4.4.2 (build number 230), even I tick the phone call to be set as earpiece or not, sometimes, not always, the no sound earpiece will appear again. but, it wors fine again when I tap (not press), but tap with little effort, the sound works again. Never try with headset, because I bought this unit second hand with no headset from first owner.
In Jelly Bean 4.1.2 or Jelly Bean 4.2.2 I think the SoundAbout Pro app work very great, cause when I was in Jelly bean 4.1.2 and updated to Jelly Bean 4.2.2, the earpiece always works, if I untick the phone call to be set as earpiece, the earpice didn't work, but if I update to Jelly Bean 4.3 and KitKat 4.4.2, the earpiece here in my Xperia fixed no all things, just fixed a little. Why I say that? Because sometimes, the earpiece will begin give no sound again until I tap the top of device, the problem is gone, but one day later, the earpiece problem appear again. Well for this problem I can understand it, disappoint of course users will do, but I should be patient, maybe another update or if I sell this Xperia, the problem will go out.
Yes
I have same problem sometimes.
I installed ''Diagnostics'' application and solved problem like that.
but still in week 2 times i have this problem.
hope they will solve this problem otherwise i will never buy sony again.
