problem with ear speaker on my xperia Z

hi,

i got my xperia z during the month of march 2013.

i started experiencing problems with my ear speaker during the past 10 days.

it has never before given me any cause for worry so i thought maybe there was some problem in handling the phone from my side. i put it inside a jar of rice thinking whether sweat might have seeped in accidentally.

even after that, i still faced problems with it at random times when i was taking calls [when i tried xperia diagnostics it passed a few times and failed a few times].

i took it to the service centre closest to my location at bangalore, india. they said if this was a major problem then my phone would be replaced and i would get a new handset.

they did offer me a new handset yesterday [it was handed to me in a white box with nothing to protect it from scratches] , which never recognized the sim card from my original phone and this piece had scratches all over it.
when i asked about the scratches, the service representative said that i was lucky to have so few scratches i could only iagine what the other phones she mentioned looked like Worried_Face

i spoke to the supervisor as well about this new "replacement phone" that was given to me, he immediately got a work order ready and took back the phone.

i told him that i was unhappy and scared that my newly "replaced" phone wouldnt have the water resistance feature due to such bad conditions of the phone and asked him whether he could sprinkle some water over the phone just to prove its water resistance, he flew into a fury and started telling me how its not "waterproof" and etc...

well i think the motto "make, believe" just went into the drain when their own employees dont believe in their products

lets just hope my sad story becomes a happy one when the next phone they give me is atleast in a decent conditon Face_with_rolling_Eyes which i believe would never happen

Thank you SONY for after all the products i have bought from your company i am given such a headache and emotional stress.

is there any way that i could be given my original phone back if i post my IMEI number?

i could keep that original phone in mint condition at home and maybe go for any of the phone from the galaxy S series

Regards

Dhruv

My Sony Xperia Z just got back from a repair service with this issue reported. They replaced my internal speaker and now everything works fine :). So this is definetly a hardwear issue.

I also have this issue with the intermittant speaker working. I think the whole phone is faulty as it's started wiper and damaging my memory cards too.

I have the same problem. I think its due to a problem with the ear proximity sensor which is responsible for turning off the screen. because at first the problem did exist only when I had hold the phone by my ear and whenever I hold it further i could hear the voice coming from it. I am going to contact a sony service center.

I noticed the same problem it just starting to happen recently. Also the indicator near my headphones turned pink but my headphones jack works perfectly also, they turned pink 5 months ago and this was not an issue, also the flap that covers the headphone jack constantly pops open on its own, so I had nothing to do with the indicator going off as i do not pointlessly put my phone into water, any case it drops it has been accidental with the flaps all closed.

Hi,

Even I am facing the same problem. I don't know whether this has happened after upgrading to 4.3 or not. But when I am calling other person can hear My voice but I am not able to hear them.

I did restart, repair of software through PC Companion but it is of no use. Just like CallerUnkown said when I gently presss the ear speaker with My ear where SONY is written on top centre side sound comes but that too not stable. Sometimes it is too loud or sometimes very low voice.

Just like CallerUnknown I installed the Xperia Diagnostics and tested the ear speaker sometimes I can hear the default Xperia ringtone and many time I am not able to hear tht.

KIndly check and advise or We should take this to SONY Service station.

Thanks.

As I stated earlier, Sony is admitting this issue with ear speaker and this is definetly a hardwear issue. Just take it to the repair center and they will replace your ear speaker with a new one.
My phone is working perfectly after taking it to a repair center.

I am facing same issue ever since I updated my OS. Ear speaker sometimes works, sometimes not during call. This is frustrating. It is not expected from Sony. They should take this on high priority and publish fix on this.

icuric,

I'm also facing the same problem. I've submitted my phone to service center and they just reset my phone (upgraded/downgraded) software which is not solving the problem. Did they repair your speaker or they have provided you completly new phone. As far as I know this Xperia Z is not serviceable (one piece phone).
