I bought my new Sony Xperia Z2 in Bulgaria on the 27-th May. I tested the camera in 4K video and normal mode. I noticed that the phone is getting hot after making some photos and video. When I recorded a 4K video the camera switched off after only 2 minutes with massege Overheating! I saw that many others had the same problem. My question is is there a chance to fix the problem. Can I return the phone and change it with another one?
I am BEYOND FRUSTRATED!
So i bought a Sony Xperia Z2 on the 22nd of June. In 3 days i noticed abnormal overheating and fast disarching problems, so i returned it to the store and exhanged it immediately for another Sony Xperia Z2.
The second Xperia Z2 i got, also had overheating problems, but it was almsot as if i was in denial. I thought i may be overreacting or over using it. But by day 8, i was like, am i kidding. no im not. I used Imstagram, Whatsapp, Gmail & Work email. Thats as far as i really used my phone. Never recoreded in 4K. Or took HD photos on my camera. I didnt even have a MicroSD card with a lot of data on it.
Returned it to the store. They said i couldn't exhange it because it is over 7 days old. Onthe 8th day, they need to take it to the service center.
Service center trip 1 - 3 days later, they said it was a software issue. (considering it already had the latest update i wasn't convinced, and in the store i showed them the overheating, so they took it back
Service center trip 2 - 8 days later, they said they still couldnt find anything wrong. it is a software issue. Proved them wrong again instantly, so they took it back.
Service center trip 3 - 2 days later, i was told that they will be sending the phoen to Sony and that i can take a replacement phone.
So here is me thinking, Sony is a reputable brand. Surely they didnt create such an error where all the phones in my city have overheating problems. Whenever i googled, the errors i saw were only related to 4k recrording. So i thought in my self, thurd time is a charm. Let me try it again. I was keen on getting my hands on the phone. It is a beautiful device... or thats how sony sold their flagship phone. When i got the third phone, the new build had just come out. So i downloaded it immediatly. It took around an hr and a bit to download on unstall via Sony Bridge for Mac.
And inthe past 24hrs, i had to charge it 3 times. Constantly HOT! and im frustarted beyond imagination! 3 phones in 1 month. All overheating. All disarchign quikcly. Always needing to cool down. I'll give sony credit, the 3 photos i maganed to take do look good. But the phone is a total fail. I switched my data off, and used just the WiFi and it was still getting hot. I have 2 apps. Gmail & Whatsapp. NFC is off, LTE is off. dare i download Tinder?
I'm at a loss. Do i wait for Sony to send out a recall? Do i wait for yet another software release? or do i ditch it completely?
I'm considering switching back to the plastic Samsung... or even get an HTC. At least these phones do not face the same complaints. This phone is meant to be the flagship phone. Its the FIFA World Cup 2014 phone. This is catastrophic!
Very dissapointed.

ahmedelgamal:
With previous phones (I go through a lot for myself and family when they get them), often a firmware update would mess up some app or another, screwing up battery life. After a factory reset, problem would be resolved. To be clear, the prevoius Android phones were NOT Sonys. I also have seen same issue on iPhone, so it's not even Android-exclusive...just something about a major O/S upgrade and not always being 100% smooth when it comes to keeping the apps that are on there.
I just got the update a few days ago and I noticed that the battery drains faster than before. I used to get two days out of it. Now it only last a day. I tried repairing it and the same problem still exist. Today I used the camera creative effect app just to check the effects and the battery went from 100% to 96%. Sony please fix this. Is there anyone having the same problem?

Mih:
I tried factory reset. These phones were as good as new. Everytime they would factpry reset the phones or firmare update at the service center, the problem would come back as soon as the dats is switched on.
And now when i tried to use the phone when it was in the charger, with basic apps in operation, it said that i am using more power than the charger and thus the phone is discharging. Its like really? I am using the Sony charger.
I am eyeying the HTC One E8 now to he honest. It looks decent. Trying to figure out when it will be released. Dual Sim cards which comes in handy when travelling. 13mp camera. not water resistant, but i'll live with it.
If Sony doesn't get it's act together, they would have lost another customer for good.
Yepp, same thing here. Battery drains from 100% to under 30% in less than 24hours.
Came after the latest update.
Before it ran for days between charging.
and it overheats
Yea it overheats when using the camera
Please take into account that other brand's flagships like HTC One M8 or LG G3 are also facing overheating issue and this is also a reason why for example these brands limits 4K video to 5 min only and no longer.
Give Sony a credit, for sure they are working on solution with a software.
It is a processor who is overheating, so Sony is unable to please everyone.
One thing is that people are expecting the latest, fastest hardware including processors
The other thing is the same people do not understand that fastest processors are simply hot, even the desktop ones like Intel Core i7.
Please take it into account.
