I bought my new Sony Xperia Z2 in Bulgaria on the 27-th May. I tested the camera in 4K video and normal mode. I noticed that the phone is getting hot after making some photos and video. When I recorded a 4K video the camera switched off after only 2 minutes with massege Overheating! I saw that many others had the same problem. My question is is there a chance to fix the problem. Can I return the phone and change it with another one?

I get that too with regular car chargers (as opposed to the 2A ones), and not just with this phone (had HTC and Samsungs before and a friend's iPhone 5 that didn't admit it, but the charge level spoke for itself), and on the rare occasion if I have a few apps running as well as maps on the screen all the time on high brightness on the 2A as well.
I never had it happen with the Sony charger (then again, I don't run navigation when it's on the Sony charger), so maybe send the charger back as well if/when you send the phone in for repairs again?
I did return the charger. everytime.
I went through 3 phones with 3 different chargers

Personally if Sony didn't solve this tremendous problem, I'll never buy again any Sony product.
completely agree.
Even if the Z3 comes out with magical new features. i'll know that these features haven't been tested or optimized in the device correctly.
So i returned the third phone. I am now a proud owner of an HTC One M8. Well i wouldn't say proud, i feel like i have settled. But the device is reliable and doesn't overheat and doesn't discharge.
It is very dissapointing what Sony put us through. My faith in the company and it's products has been let down. They may have the innovation, but they have a long way to gain my trust back.
I will miss the camera which i barely used (a few test photos here and there), i will miss 4k which i didnt even bother using, and the underwater feature which i honestly didnt get a chance to test.
I will continue to follow this thread to see if there is a solution or fix or how Sony will act. For now i won't recommend this phone to anyone.
I have also overheating problems with Xperia Z2 phone.
Sony's retail store where I bougth this phen told me that this is normal. Sony's phone isn't ment to be record video long time and camera overheats because its so good
I feel very stupid that I believed Sonys advertising and lines like "Best camera in a waterproof smartphone". How it can be best if it even don't work at summer?
Sad is that Sony has lied to his loyal customers. This may be end of mine Sony products spree. I have had several Sony phones. I thougth to buy Sony 4K TV and PS4, but this will never happen if this problem isnt solved!!
I purchased Xperia Z2 on 4July on contract. The phone is a crap... overheats with any application. Can not hold it after playing any game for 10 mins. Its such waste of money. I had sent it to service center but they just updated the firmware to 314 and nothing else. Just want to know if I can take any legal action against Sony.

still waiting for mine to return from (the first) repair.
How did you return yours (after it wasn't fixable)?

If it's really not fixable, and it's a design flaw in all their Z2s, then I'd imagine a class-action lawsuit is a definite possibility.

I didnt return one. I returned THREE over the duration of around a month.
The store i purchased from was just as convinced the phone had issues, but when they would send it to the Sony approved service center, they would only update the firmware (which was already up to date).
There was a lot of yelling involved of course. While it isn't the store's fault, my relationship is with them as they are the retailer. They should then raise this issue with Sony. So somewhere in some office are 3 Xperia Z2 phones (mine), and probably from a few others out there that are basically from unhappy customers.
If the phone isnt on airplane mode its great, but the second u swithch on Wifi or LTE or 3G thats it. Expect the phone to last 5 hrs before it shuts down again.

I bought mine through the cell provider (Bell)...don't expect miracles from them 😕
If Sony is unable to fix my phone, I will make a chargeback through Visa, as I have purchase protection. But it's good to hear that there are stores that will accept responsibility for selling this phone, like yours.
