Media loss after data transfer to SD card

Currently touring overseas and internal memory was getting filled with media, transferred to SD card but found an empty folder after completion. Is there any way to find the lost media or reattain them? I really hope there's a solution as I lost quite a few hundreds of photos...

Is there any way to recover using apps alone? I forgot to mention that I have no access to a computer at the moment. Or are there any precautions I should take to ensure a smooth recovery when I get access to one? Such as leaving the empty folder untouched?

unmount the SD card asap and don't use it until you have a computer available, you can look on the playstore but I haven't seen anything like that.
