Jelly Bean? Sony agreed to 18months updates after the release day, is Sony keeping their word?

in I/O 2011 Sony Ericsson agreed to update for AT LEAST 18 months their devices, the Xperia Arc was released April 2011 which means that it should receive updates up to October but how about the LT15a which was released later on 2011 does it mean that it will get updates until december more or less?

but the MOST important question is, Is Sony going to keep their promise to update their phones for AT LEAST (not up to) AT LEAST 18months as Sony agreed at I/O 2011 ?

The least sony can do is give us JB to compensate for a half - developed ics.
But sony's main priority is the 2012 xperias, and im 99% sure they will get it.

On the other hand, 2011 xperias may not get jb, and might be left out like the x10, which didnt get ics ( not too sure about that).
Also, i have strong faith that The arc, and arc s will get jb early next year, but still......we could never be 100% sure
Just have to wait and see

mmmm...18 month update....Yaa,sony is very late in developing software...

Today Soul of new handset is ICS...

Sony Ics is not comes yet for other Sony next series mobile and xperia 2012 model,"2-3 month waiting for ics,is roll out" sony says...

If ics late then obviously jelly bean in next year, Then 18 year complete....HE HE HE:smileylaugh:

I really doubt that Jelly Beans will be rolled out to 2011 Xperias for the following reasons:

1. Sony Ericsson is no longer in existence (October 2011), its now Sony Mobile. Thus any promises made by Sony Ericsson may be null and void.

2. Developmental cost are expensive, as Sony Mobile has to adapt Jelly Beans to their entire 2011 Xperia Range ( we have all seen the fiasco with the ICS rollout).

3. Why would Sony Mobile want to provide a more stable and better performing OS to phones that will 2 years old, they would want customers to update (buy) their phones.

4. Network /carriers want customers, so buy default Sony would not want to continue support for old phones as this would impact on network/carrier sales. Since network/carriers account for the majority of phone sales they have greater influence.

This may not be the news everyone wants to hear, but I expect its more realistic.

I completely agree with you, it isn't the news I want to hear but your right and there is no point in avoiding the truth. I doubt, us 2011 users, will get JB (hopefully I am wrong) but if that is the case we should atleast be recieving bug fixes for the current issues in ICS.

I just happened to think it's likely to receive this and even up to 5.0 because it makes sense because they will launch a turbocharged version of, as they did with the Xperia Arc, and therefore should be waiting this release and everything else to announce. because if they do not there will be many people disappointed and many petitions as the Xperia X10, and until brought results!

I also remember an article that came out recently that the tools would google for more rapid development!

I think Aimee forgot that the android update alliance is to address fragmentation not just minor updates or patches

Hi,

18 months of updates does not necessarily refer to Android version updates. This also includes performance enhancing updates on the Android version the handset is already running on.

Our developers will test the handsets on the new versions of Android which Google release and confirm whether the user experience is stable enough to provide an update.

Until we have confirmation regarding this, we would be unable to confirm which units will be able to run this version.

Just like she did before, and it was yet another LIE

Re: The real reason X8, x10 mini/pro, w8 won't get an update?

The official statement does mention the RAM but it also mentions the following reason:

The upgrade of XperiaTM X10 also was made possible due to that we had a code base that mostly could be reused. For the mini’s, who have a different user interface, this possibility did not exist.

I am only able to provide you with the same information I have been provided with myself.

BUT the fact is that Android doesn't have a minimum hardware requirement. I've been waiting for you or someone from Sony to reply to that thread and still no answer.

If the phones are updated for 18 months, them most 2011 phones are eligible for the JB update the majority were released in the second half of the year, what means they should be updated until the first half of 2013.

If sony keeps its word and update the 2011 line to JB, I'll be very proud of being a sony costumer, but if they don't, then I'll make another switch, this time to a Nexus, because I'm REALLY SICK of Android manufacturers not keeping their word about updates, disrespecting their costumers.

the nexus S (1GHz @ 512MB RAM) received JB, and its hardware is very similar to the 2011 xperia family, so, the hardware is not a excuse for the update
