Jelly Bean? Sony agreed to 18months updates after the release day, is Sony keeping their word?

in I/O 2011 Sony Ericsson agreed to update for AT LEAST 18 months their devices, the Xperia Arc was released April 2011 which means that it should receive updates up to October but how about the LT15a which was released later on 2011 does it mean that it will get updates until december more or less?

but the MOST important question is, Is Sony going to keep their promise to update their phones for AT LEAST (not up to) AT LEAST 18months as Sony agreed at I/O 2011 ?

Or are we going to have another 2010 Xperiagate scandal?

The real reason X8, x10 mini/pro, w8 won't get an update? will the 2011 Xperias have the same fate?

http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/121814

to recap Sony Ericsson claimed that there were hardware limitations on their 2010 Xperias to run Android 2.3

but the fact is

The minimum requirements for Android 2.3 Gingerbread are

MUST have at least 128MB of memory available to the kernel and userspace. The 128MB MUST be in addition to any memory

dedicated to hardware components such as radio, memory, and so on that is not under the kernel's control.

Device implementations MUST have at least 150MB of non-volatile storage available for user data. That is, the /data partition MUST be at least

150MB

Now with the 2011 Xperias we have another issue ICS it's not smooth and Sony blames the hardware once again BUT

The New Sony 2012 LOW END Xperias have the same or lower hardware than the 2011 Xperias but they will able to run ICS ok?

I really hope that Sony do not 'ditch' us like how they did with the X10, only time will tell.

Why don't you ask Xperia play owners that question. I am sure they will have lots to say .

So what about Jellybean? Would 2011 xperia's get it? or just 2012 versions ...

Nothing has being said about Android 4.1 only rumors

this is my take on this

since Jelly bean will be released this year it should go for the 2012 Xperias first then to the 2011 Xperias, that way 2012 xperia owners don't feel cheated, and the 2011 xperias will get a tested bug free, hopefully, update

everybody win

yea, HOPEFULLY.

Im fine with ics, but i read that jelly bean isnt a major upgrade, so maybe the non up-to-date phones could handle it?

I hope so too and I hope that the code it's quite similar so Sony can roll it out soon

With all of the performance and stability issues with the ICS updates, do you really want a repeat.
