Jelly Bean? Sony agreed to 18months updates after the release day, is Sony keeping their word?

in I/O 2011 Sony Ericsson agreed to update for AT LEAST 18 months their devices, the Xperia Arc was released April 2011 which means that it should receive updates up to October but how about the LT15a which was released later on 2011 does it mean that it will get updates until december more or less?

but the MOST important question is, Is Sony going to keep their promise to update their phones for AT LEAST (not up to) AT LEAST 18months as Sony agreed at I/O 2011 ?

I hope the 2011 and 2012 get it, and if possible the X10 too Slightly_smiling_Face

I think it's safe to say that phones with at least 1GB of RAM and a capable processor (dual-cores perhaps) will get Jelly Bean since the devices (e.g. Nexus 7 and Motorola Xoom) currently being advertised that or will have Jelly Bean all have 1GB of RAM and have at least two CPU cores. Of course it's possible that phones with less than 1GB or RAM which got updates for ICS will also get Jelly Bean too. But, I wouldn't be surprised if this time Sony prioritizes phones with 1GB of RAM.

SONY needs to do something to their costumers. There are millions of costumers awaiting for a fix update that can gives us a stable O.S. and phone.

I do have a Xperia Arc S and after updating to ICS 4.0.4 what I can say is that, it´s not a bad upgrade but there are some issues that must be solved. LED light for messages doesn´t work, dialer still have a delay, if I want to change my group names, I can´t, the keyboard does not appear, battery burns like fire when navigating in internet, camera have bugs also and less options and battery life is not good as it should be.

SONY certaintly will do something because phones can not be like this forever. I do want to have a 100% functional smartphone, not a 60%,70% funcional one.

Google didn´t release the ICS 4.0.5 until now so I do not no If SONY will give us just firmwares to fix this bugs or the new Jelly Bean 4.1.

I really hope that SONY give us Jelly Bean 4.1 well costumized to xperia 2011 phones and without bugs. ICS until now it is the worst O.S. Google made. Many problems and bugs and it´s not only SONY that it is facing all this problems, all other brands had and still have problems with ICS.

Jellybean is lighter than ics, and there is no doubt single core phone with 512 ram could support it, so im quite hopeful 2011 xperias will get it.
But sony knows than ics is worse than gb, so they might try to change us to 4.1, rather than keep us on 4.0.

Also, i heard that there is no flash support for jb ?

how do you know JB is lighter?

Even the CyanogenMod team has announced that they are now working on the CM10, incorporating the features of Jelly Bean.

They have explicitly said that if the device was capable of running/was already running on CM9, then CM10 wouldn't be a problem.

This directly indicates to Jelly Bean lighter than ICS. If Cyanogen can port JB to the devices with 512 MB of RAM, I don't think Sony would back out on promise of updates support for 18 months.

Yes that's Right. Sony should provide this support. CM10 is being worked upon. Still CM is in analysis of source. The first thing it will do is bridge gap of CM9 and CM10 and then later it will take up bridging CM7 and CM10:http://www.androidust.com/will-cm10-jelly-bean-work-on-xperia-devices/

It’s obviously annoying to wait for a long time until your mobile gets an update to a new version, and Android updates are usually known for such long updates with long waiting period. It takes over 3 to 6 months for OEM’s to release updates for their Android phones, but this is expected to change with the release of Jelly Bean.

It is said that Google would de-couple UI customizations from the Core OS so as to enable manufacturers to apply customizations to Stock AOSP Android in the minimum time with which there will be faster release of updates and upgrades to all users.

Android OS works amazingly awesome on any dual-core phones and higher configuration smartphones. However, when it comes to lower end phones, the performance is very poor.

In order to overcome this problem, we hope that Google will release a lighter version of the OS – Android 5.0 Jell Bean Lite – for smartphones with limited CPU and storage capacity.   Slightly_smiling_Face
