You can't block that by default. See if this app helps:

Thank you alexdon, I downloaded that app and tried it, it sort of works, but not great. It's a pity there is no way to disable swipe up properly.
Sony if you are reading this please add option to disable or even disable for game play.

Hi,
How do you remove or disable the search shortcut in 5.0? The shortcut I refer to is when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen you get Google search. It keeps opening when I am playing temple run, and it's driving me nuts 😄
If you know how to use ADB, I may be able to help you.
I've an ADB command which removes (blocks) the google search bar from kitkat.
In lollipop, you can also disable "google app", which removes the search bar.

Gary
Using ADB you might be able,I know I have blocked what's new before.

Can I ask the stupid question, what is ADB?
of course you can Saswatch
However, as you're asking, it'll probably been easiest just to disable "google app".
ADB though is basically software which allows you to perform system level commands on your phone. It allows you to, for example, copy files 'directly' from PC to phone, etc. It's a bit like remote DOS (command line tool).
