hello,
I have a little problem with the beautiful sony xperia z. I had the Samsung Galaxy Note 1 and and i fell in love with the xperia so I exchanged the G.Note with someone who had the xperia; now my problem is that the phone is kinda messed up .. the volume down button is not working and the phone is blocked in Safe Mode and the only way to exit safe mode is by using the volume down key so I just wanted to ask if there is someone who knows a way to repair the button and maybe get the phone to work. I've already been to a phone repairing shop but they said that there is nothing they can do but I am still hoping to do something because the person who gave me the xperia is now avoiding me and won't agree to give me back my phone so I have to make this one work . Thank you all and if you know smth please let me know. All the love for the xperia phones, they are amazing and I wish mine would work .

If its a hardware issue there isn't anything you can do about it, you can try to reinstall/repair it with SUS
Bridge (for Mac)
Alternatives on How to backup Xperias
Sorry to hear about your phone.
What you can try is to repair the phones software as suggested by uliwooly but if that doesn't help the phone needs to be repaired/replaced. In that case i recommend that you contact your local Sony Xperia support (http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/) for assistance.
Hi Rickard,
Since you are from Xperia Support, Could you please update us with the problem that we are facing with 4.3 update for Xperia Z. I would like to to mention two things :
1.Sony Select App is not working (Shows Please connect to internet message)
2.The promised social camera app in not the same that we have in Xperia Z1
Is Sony planing a fix for these problem(may be an update or something ?)
Looking forward for your reply.
Kind Regards,
George (Xperia Z User)
If you are confident with youself, you can repair it yourself . Buy the button flex cable like that and replace the broken one following the repair video, if you can, have a try.
Hi, I also have the same problem. After searching online I think I found the reason for this issue with the volume down button. Water getting into the Water resistant phone.
If you try to think about it you would have got your phone wet before you got this problem. And when you phones gets hot you probably see fogging on the camera lens screen.
Some people have suggested of opening all the flaps and trying to get your phone dried out. They say it fixed it for them.
Others have said that eventually they had to send it back to Sony for repair (under warranty) and got a new phone.
I will am trying to use the first technique by getting my phone dried out.
Can you ttell us if drying it out worked?

I have had endless problems with this phone. Too afraid to store any music, photos etc in fear that I have to erase, again. I now have the volume button/safe mode problem. Am holidaying in Thailand and now Hav very limited access to social media to contact relatives and using the awesome camera features. I'm so very disappointed with Sony support also, when I logged into chat with technician I was told it was a software or hardware issue and hung up on me without suggesting any support. Although it seems like a small problem, it has had a big effect on my holiday.
This is the second Sony phone I have bought ever, the previous was around 10 years ago. Never ever again - back to Apple I go. At least they care if their product is giving you a bad day.
well it just happened to me two days ago. just the same when i was having beach holiday and i lost my moment to picture it. i was browse everything i can about this problem, once i found bug issue, soon i back up my phone (in the end it gone bad, damaged files and i cant restore my data, see me new post in this forum)
then i re-installing phone software but it doesnt change anything, then i talked to my friend who was phone technician, he said the buttons should be repair/change, the power button and volume button as they are in one set/one circuit (i dont know what it called) in less than 6 hours, BANGGGG my phone back to normal, it cost about $35. but the bad news is as my backup file is damaged so i cannot restore it, if only i didnt re-instal my phone
for additional info, my XZ age is 2 years old means out of official warranty ( one year only) i fixed my phone not in Sony Center because i know it will take a looongg looong time to make it done, i dont know how the procedure is, but mostly people complaining about Sony Cervice Centre.
hope this info may help you
what shop did you send it to? or you send it to your friend and he charged u? My xperia z's volume key is broken, it doesnt respond to me when I press it. its really annoying.
