Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Are you getting paid or something?
are you getting paid to complain and whine about the same thing over and over?
nop, it's the other way around. I PAID MY MONEY (NOT YOU, NOT ANYBODY ELSE) for this supposedly amazing smarthphone with "amazing 12MP camera".
No, im not getting paid for complaining. BUT I DID PAID 600dollars for this smarthphone with a not so smart focus and others problems. And I will complain until they admit the problem. That they sell people a smartphone that IT"S NOT WHAT THEY SAY. ah y no seas tan lambon
that's great, but if you want to nag and complain you are in the wrong place, since this is a forum for users to help each other out, not for Sony to help out, if you need Sony's help contact them directly.
if this is a forum for users to helping each other out then you are in the wrong place, because you are helping nobody here with those useless advice (use shutter key). it doesnt help, and if we get the option to touch focus it is supposed to work, if not then dont put it. you the problem is there, so stop saying it is not there.
au contraire mon amie, that's your opinion not a fact. if you neither sus nor pcc or using the shutter help you, then take it back to sony or sony repair center, as simple as that, posting and whining that it doesn't work for you its not going to magically fix it or make it work as you expect it, It works fine with me so if I'm going to be bias and use logical fallacies like you or the other user then I can say it's not the phone but you
Yes luis_DR, stop complaining and bring your phone to SONY, so they can give you another phone with exactly the same problems after waiting for some time without any phone.
On the other hand you can take into consideration uliwooly useless advices and keep your faulty phone.
I will just sell it when iPhone 5 comes out.
Hehehe. That's what he wants, he wants people like me stop complaining about the problem, but that is a dream not coming true for him.
I'm not even paying no attention to that dude since it looks like he's getting paid or at least getting new phones when they come out for posting positive posts here and saying that we dont know how to use a smartphone's camera and that there's no problem with the phone when it is obvious that the problem is there. There are a lot, a whole lot of us experiencing the problems with the camera
dont think the problem is the sensor (know its small etc) etc, cos outdoor photos are great and rival the N8, its as though the sync between the LED and the autofocus is out or something, I think its a software issue...
