Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

the camera is total crap the satio was much better, its the worse camera ive ever had, the red an greens and over satution the pics lacks detail because of it, you cant take pics in a darken room, to much noise in the pics, if you can get everyone to stand still while you prop your self rigded to stop all the blur you going to get.

a total waste of time its much easier to use the video, the flash just make every thing yellow, and showing some top person using the the phone and getting great shots is total crap, if you have seen this vid you would see all he takes is large outside panorama, not close up of red roses in the sun hahaha   im sorry but if you got to muck about with the setting every time you need to take a pic i would have bought a slr camera .... oh i did. and i dont think the so call jelly bean will make it any better. 12mp more like 3

ya i'm also facing the same problem with xperia SL, i dont think Sony is even trying to fix this issue. Their coustumer care or AUTHOURIZED service center is doing anything to fix this and their response is very poor and they dont have any knowlege on fixing any issue, they will just give some lame reasons , i should've gone to samsung or HTC i'm regreting now.......... Crappy cellphone. DONT EVER BUY SONY SMARTPHONE.........................

Is it wrong that the front camera takes better pictures than the rear?  Perhaps they assembled the cameras the wrong way round :smileysilly::smileysilly::smileysilly:

I usually take about 8 or 9 pictures in a row, at least one of them "should" be in focus.

I love the camera of xperia SL, but i have one problem, the aspect ratio of the camera in 12MP mode is 4:3, is it possible to increase it to 16:9?
