Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Im not an expert but I also think it's software issue too. This phone is not supposed to be having this kind of issues since it has "Exmore sensor" and Apple and Samsung uses sony's sensor and they DONT HAVE THIS ISSUES on their phones. ONE THING IM SURE IS THAT IT IS NOT USERS RELATED PROBLEM, as someone on this thread is saying.
Its still on the same verge! I have an xperia S updated with ICS and i have a nokia N8. The Nokia N8 camera beats the xperia S hands down. I would have used the nokia N8 camera in xperia S if possible to make the best Smart phone uptill date. I dont know why Sony techhies could not think of something like what i am thinking. My smart phone as Xperia S is not smart at all when it comes to clicking photographs, infact its pathetic!
Wonder if Sony will just ignore this like they normally do... I dont mind them ignoring minor issues but when its a major issue like this II really hope they sort it out!!! Or it'll b my last Sony... If I support them they need to support us in dealing with problems, and this on one of their flagship cameraphones is a major issue!!
SIII v iphone 4s v Xperia S

That's what have been doing a couple of months about this big issue, they know the problem is there. Infinitive number of users have confirmed on this thread. I feel the same way as I always have supported sonyEricsson/Sony, all my phones are sonyEricsson, now Sony. But just like you if they continue with that attitude of ignoring us thi will be my last Sonymobile. This is just not the way to treat consumers.
but they haven't ignored customers, you can check this and other similar threads were they passed the feedback to developers, it's up to developers and whomever is on charge to implement this or not, it'll be wise to contact them directly.

"They" being the people are who in charge of fixing the problem, not the ones who pass it on. The developers have not released any info about the problem, status, whether they even think it's a problem, whether a fix is being worked on, nothing, so it's not wrong to assume they've done nothing about it since there's no evidence to say otherwise not even an update as to whether anything will be done or is the pipeworks.
You keep posting that link, guess what? I've sent messages through that link multiple times since March and the fact that you post the link tells me you've never done so because if you did, you'd know the email back isn't very helpful as it provides answers almost as bad as the things you post here, but not as bad -- further to that, i've been given the link to the developers website even though i requested the query be passed on internally via email to the developers; the developer site itself has no contact methods set up other than press related contact and it actually links to THIS FORUM and tells you to post your issues HERE, so to tell people not to post problems here is a bit ridiculous.
Uliwooly, go to page 24 and the WMA thread and look at all the posts you marked as "Abusive". Notice how they've been let through, unchanged? So clearly NOT abusive even though you keep marking it as such. You've been warned multiple times to stop abusing the "report" button yet you continue to do so like as if you can't comprehend what it is you're being told.
STOP ABUSING THE REPORT BUTTON ULIWOOLY. Grow a thicker skin and learn to handle criticism. Criticism is NOT abuse, how can you not tell the difference?!?!????
you might need to be reminded of the Forum Guidelines.

The purpose of this forum is for users to help each other and for us to be able to help and also check feedback.
My job is to help users as far as I can and also to report issues further into the company.
As you can see you are expecting something else from this forum.
As i said, criticism is not rude behaviour and the fact that you can't differentiate between the two.
Tell me exactly how the photo of the Xperia S with a sarcastic caption is an personal attack on YOU?! Or why a request for WMA audio support will cause you to get so involved and offended that you report the whole thing so that no one ends up seeing the thread, definitely not any developer? You're overly sensitive and it's making this forum very difficult to use as we miss a lot of posts because you keep reporting them and they disappear for a few hours only to be let through.
Rather than thinking you have an answer for every question, why not just don't give your input on every single thread? Leave some alone for those involved with Sony to come and deal with. This thread is a perfect example of that, it's related to people having problems with focus, clearly NOT a user error and yet somehow you have to get involved and share your opinion that it works great for you....it's one thing if you left it at that, but for some reason you keep having to share your opinion even post photos of random buildings as if that helps the rest of us who experience the focus problem.
Your camera's focus is working great? Great, then move along. The sad thing is, if the developers end up fixing the problem because all of us complained, then you too will end up with a much better camera even though you insisted it's great already.
