Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

I guess this is not a place where a Sony Guy checks the posts and replies to our problems. They bledy busy in releasing xperia phones with all the english alphabets.

Sony's First Smartphone Xperia S.... Bulll Shit!

Besides another Sony X S User, none of my frnds or parents or colleagues could operate my phone. They just did not understand the pathetic and unresponsive capacitive buttons. As a matter of fact, sometimes even I have to power off and on for them to work.

There seems to be many other software issues too.  Frequent hanging, phone going crazy, etc etc....

Not Linking at All!

Pathetic Service!!!

I have problems focusing and some of the pictures are really yellowish!. People laught at me because it´s a Sony, they should do better imaging software inside this Xperia S phones. Wonder if ICS will fix this problem.

By the way, front camera takes horrible pictures.

Today I tried taking close up macro shot of a key cylinder - outside, in a broad daylight. Results were pathetic to say the least. Out of 13 shots, 4 turned up ok while other 9 were blurred. If you don't believe me I can upload the pics and post a link here.

I don't know what to think of this. Do we really need to wait 3 more months in hope that JB update will _maybe_ fix the issue? Can't we have a small camera fix update? Small input from Sony guys, letting us know they are actually doing something about it? Anything? It's not a cheap device either. I payed 540 euros for it.

What pisses me off the most is the fact that this issue is "assumed answered" while NOTHING is being done to fix it. This is Xperia support forum. So, where is support?

WOW!  2013 already!!!!!!

-New to here. ICS on my phone.

-So, the thing that is it takes FOREVER to focus when taking videos.

-blurry at night.

-lags sometimes even when I am using the walkman to listen to music.

So sad to see the 5MP ipod touch outperform my xperia s.

HELP! Please do something about the camera in the JB update!

yesterday i was playing with the camera and i set my capture method to 'touch capture' and focus mode set to 'touch focus'. whenever your picture seems to be out of focus, place your finger on the screen but DONT let go of your finger until the photo is focus. if it fails to focus even by placing your finger on the screen, then try to move your finger slowly across the screen and you will get a clear picture with green rectangle box when the picture is taken. try this and let me knw, it works for me! remember to set the settings above to get the result, good luck

Hi shangjeen, it works and it brings better results! You introduced the correct way to use "on-scree" key as camera side key, and your operation shows you know how to use a digital camera! Not just aware to press a key to finish capture(like IP4). A real user of camera should know that How to make it focus, how to use the settings the phone provided to get great picture and have fun!

There are also some tips provided by SONY that I think is very helpful, it works for me! Check the link below, if you have encontered focus problem. Good luck! and I hope you can have fun with everything you have!:smileylaugh:

Hi all,

have you all used Pudding Camera. For me, this app way much better in low light condition and lot noise free compared to stock app in indoor shoot-out. When you snap with Pudding Camera, try to take some pictures by pressing the camera button continuously and it will take like burst camera but bit slower hence you can choose the best one out of some.

It is our fault and mistake to buy XperiaS Slightly_frowning_Face

cheers,
