Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Both have less mpx, and xperia that have a higher mpx camera, have a poorest images.

I'm Croatian and I am a new user on the forum. I'm totally disappointed with the camera.
Out of focus problem. Yellow screen on some parts of the screen (but I solved that problem with warranty).
It seems that no one here takes work seriously. After this, never again, but I will never buy a sony phone. I will tell all my friends .. It is sad that no one here take it seriously. I bought the phone for a lot of money .. all I got was a bunch of garbage and problems.
I'm sorry these people here who have the same problem. And who threw money on this phone. That's why I write this.

Now I have to sell this phone.
And buy SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 ...
or something else.

I too was looking to buy the Samsung Galaxy S3 to replace the Xperia S as i'm sick of waiting for a fix to all these blurry out of focus photos and videos; i was shocked to see the prices Xperia S was going for, it's dropped so much! New and used. In hindsight wish i sold it when i realised the camera was rubbish, but then, no one knew Sony would be this rubbish at not bothering to release a fix.

The price of a new Xperia S has dropped by around 40% in 5 months!! Used one almost 60% if you look around. That's a huge drop!!! Compare that to how slowly Iphone & Samsung prices drop.

Never again Sony!

Xperia S is sold. This is the last Sony phone in my hands. I decided to go with the Samsung Galaxy S3 ... I know that this phone will never disappoint me. Iphone is also very good ... All my friends love this phone and have no problems. I chose samsung because it has a bigger screen, which for me is very important. And no laging on android. The Super AMOLED display is beautiful. Absolutely the best I've seen on the market. Absolutely wonderful mobile phone. I should immediately take Samsung or Iphone. I made a big mistake and losing a lot of money on sony mobile.

Actually this is very sad for such a big company that is not doing anything about this.

hummm !...seen its fixed with the last update 6.1.A.2.45 🙂 not know for others people but seen a lot probs are fixed with this update on my XS

Not worked for me, pictures still are horribly loaded with jpg compression artifacts, the video still has terrible problems trying to focus with the addition that everytime it has to focus it adds an annoying "purring" noise into the video that wasn't there before.

I wish I could go back in time to slap myself in the face when I decided to purchase this supposed-to-be flagship mobile which is worse than a middle range LG phone. And I know because I've had terrible LG middle range phones which could run over this disaster in terms of quality and reliability.

hey there Asta..you seem to be an Indian,.I'm one too and just wanted to ask you what's the latest build number/firmware update of XS available in India because here its setill showing the latst update to be 6.1.A.0.452 while you've posted it to be 6.1.A.2.45. ??:smileyconfused:

Hi  ! TheNewGuy .... sorry ..:smileycool: i am French from the Caribbean ( French West Indies ) and my firmware now is the last one : 6.1.A.2.45 i updated yesterday  28/08 (with PCC)

Think in the next days you will have it then be a bit patient some issues are fixed seen, the only thing annoying me always is : the phone don't stay in sleep mode really ( a bit strange... hope the "Dev team "will fix this Awake prob) Anyways my SX work better now.. hope will same for others

I just installed Android ICS from SONY update.

CAMERA IS NOT FIXED!!!!!

Who got the solution to this problem?
