Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Where is the support that we are supposed to get from SONY?
I have been a cronic Apple Fan since the 3G version came along. Tried Android with the HTC Desire but didn't like it at all. Then by accident i recently came across the SONY Xepria S and from the moment i held the phone, there was an instant connection. Well done SONY.
But... the camera quality really lets this product down. There are 54+ pages to this thread, surely someone should be taking a look at this and working on a fix.
Indeed all the users are in-seek of a +ve reply from Sony!!!!
Please don't disappoint all the users!!
We need to hear from you (SONY) !!
still not fix until this time... i bought the phone when it was first released..... then i came back here no updates. they insisting to be aware of this but no solution after all. outdoor the camera is superB but indoor all problems come such as hard to focus etc... Sony get a stone and knock your head maybe your eardrums not working. when you listen it suppose to go to your brain then do action but you keep silent....
i was going to buy the xperia S, but now have decided to go with the P instead. at least it doesnt have this focus problem n the grainy/noisy thingy. also video recording is better for the P i guess...
According to xperiablog there could be a new firmware due...

I really Don't care if futures Xperia's have Cyber-shot features, iv'e an actual Xperia S.
Does anyone from SONY Mobile look at this forum? It seems everyone is crying out for an answer, yet there doesn't seem to be any communication from the company?
Even if someone replied back saying "at this stage there is no fix, but we are working on something" it gives us hope! The whole silent treatment is not the way forward. The worst thing is your a communications company, but fail to communicate.
This is not having a go or a dig etc all i want to say is SONY you have a great product but it just needs a little tweek to make it a market leading product. By doing these little things, you may find your not having to depend on your new 2012 range of LCD Telvisions to help gentrate income. It is a known fact the marketing via word of mouth is more powerful than any of your Media Advertisement.
A happy customer will go and tell all his friends and family about this exciting device and guess what they will do?? buy a SONY product too. Simples.
what happened to here? no replies at all?
