Hi,
I tried to restore a previous backup to test the feature in PC Companion. And the result is : It doesn't work. here is what I did :
- make a backup
- reset your Xperia S (using the repair function in PC Companion)
- restore your previous backup
- You have lost everything.
Tha backup is supposed to backup all your data, sms, music, contacts, parameters (display, ringtones...), bookmarks, etc. But nothing is restored. You are with a brand new Xperia S
Apps are on your Google account, so they can be restored, but what about all the modifications I made the screens, the sms, my ringtones, my bookmarks, my sync accounts (Exchange, Twitter, Facebook, Google, Foursquare, etc.)?
Have someone had the same problem?
Hey, I'm just posting to let you know I'm on to this.
I will have to do some testing before I can post a good answer.
I'd like to have some more info though.
Can you restore the backup but without getting any data back?
Or - can't you even restore it? Any error message?
Like sushidushi mentioned, e.g. Google synced contacts are already backed up/saved on the Google account and will not be included. Could this be a reason to why you are missing contacts?
Thanks for the feedback
The backup is restored without error, but the phone is empty. No error message.
Contacts, sms, ringtones, home screen, etc. everything is missing. I'm trying MyBackup, I will do the test again with PC Companion.
Yea the backup and restore dont work on my computer xp. It crashes everytime to the point you have to do a forced close on the program. We all know that you get a new phone things are going to be a little up and down at the start but a main pc companion should be stable
I just created a backup in PCC and then restored it.
Contacts, calendar and apps where not restored (and they're not meant to be).
Music, messages and photos was restored just fine.
So - for me it works as supposed.
I can't think of anything else but something must have gone wrong during either the backup or during the restoration.
Do you have everything restored? (ringtones, messages sounds, alerts, home screens)
Ok only a few apps a supported by the backup process.
And MyBackup doesn't restore home screens. So I have everything, except my custom configuration... I have to redo everything.
I will use Backup and Restore (and sms backup).
Any solutions?
One thing : with the new PCC, my Xperia S isn't recognized anymore, even with hard/soft reset, shutdown/start (but Media Go is working correctly)
what do you mean PCC doesn't recognize your phone?
the issue is the pc, uninstall PCC -> reinstall it -> restart your pc and then try again
again, PCC does NOT backup your phone, you will backup with google's servers, and that will backup your contacts and if I were you, I would backup with the apps I'd suggested here they are again, and I haven't seen an app that backup everything everything
Make sure you backup everything
Settings -> privacy -> Back up my data and Automatic restore should be selected
