This is really weird. My x10 has always been saying I have no SIM card inserted even though I do and it works perfectly. My status bar always shows my connections to be changing all the time, going from 5 bars to 1 bar, to no connection then no sim card and all over again. I'm just wondering if it was the updates fault, and do I have to re-update or factory reset the phone. P.S the SIM card message disappears after a phone restart but will come right back once you put it to sleep.

Problem is with your task killer application. Add Backup and Restore application to ignore list of your task killer. This will resolve the problem.
I had the EXACT same problem. My solution was to remove my task manager app that must have been auto-killing some function that detected my SIM card. If you have a task manager running, try uninstalling it. I bet your SIM card problem will disappear. Besides, with 2.1, you don't really need a task killer. it actually ends up using MORE battery power since many apps restart intermittently, and then the task manager tries to shut them down every time, only to have them restart again minutes later, creating a cycle of power consumption that is higher than just leaving the apps running in the background. You'll actually save batteries without the task manager. Android 2.1 will shut down background apps as needed when new apps are opened up.
Yes, stopping the "Backup & Restore" from task killer has solved the problem. Thanks a lot!!!
By the way, when we click on contacts, the first line reads out "Cannot read from SIM...", though everything works well. Can't I have this message removed?
Switch off the phone. Remove battery and sim. Reinsert them and restart the phone.
Hey Benzmar,
The first line should read your own phones number. Weird work around time... remove sim from X10 and put it in an old Sony or Samsung and find My Number via that phones menu (can't be more specific as I don't know which phone you will be able to borrow from a friend/colleague or pull out of a drawer at home!) and edit and save. Then put sim back in your X10 and it should, hopefully, read your number on the top line.
Hi suze,
Thank you for that. My X10 has never shown My Number, just "Unable to read SIM card". Followed your advice, set my number in another phone and everything works now. Been trying to get a solution to that for six months from O2.
Its a great tip and so simple when you know how! Glad you are sorted... maybe you should ring O2 back and tell them how it's done:smileywink:
Thank you very much Suze. Was able to get a Samsung Old phone and it helped me to get it fixed. Now in my contacts, it shows my Mobile Number.
This is where I found in an old Samsung phone:
Menu > Settings > Application Settings > Phonebook > Own Numbers
Select Own Number and enter your Name and Phone and save. Remove SIM and now put it in Xperia. Viola! it works.
Thanks for your help guys !! I realized it was a problem with my task manager later on. Everytime I killed, my connection would go to no connection then no sim card. So I removed the back up and restore as said above
