Xperia z2 status bar not sliding down

I bought xperia z2 2 weeks ago. Just today my phone went crazy. The screen started detecting random touches every where _ghost touches_. I switched it off several times until the problem was solved . But apparently a new problem appeared. Now I can't scroll down the notification bar. I went to diagnostics where I could test the device. I tested the touch input and surprisingly the status bar area detects nothing at all. The screen works responds properly except for the upper most part ( status bar area). So I guess that this is a software problem . I tried restarting the device several times but it never worked. I hope I'll find a solution.

I'm having the same problem with mine. I also noticed that the device gets very hot. Someone have this problem as well?

I'm having the same problems too. But it's not always a problem. The problems come and go, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. When the problems start, my screen detects random touches. My screen becomes less responsive, I have to push hard to type for example. The notification bar can't be slid down when the phone is unlocked, but it does slide down when it's locked or rotated. I've done the screen test, the top part of the screen does not respond.

After a while, the problems just dissapear. My screen is more responsive and the notification bar can be slid down when unlocked. This has happend a few times allready, the problems come and go, so I think it's not hardware related...

Did anyone find a solution to this problem? Cause this is getting very irritating. Now the status bar doesn't work in landscape mode also. SONY do something.

I am also having the same problem from past few days, looks like I am new to the party
status bar won't work when unlocked.

anybody have any clue, how to get red of this?

Well you are in for a treat. Now my phone is having ghost touches. It's getting worse. And sony is not fixing it. I'm very disappointed in sony 😞 if they don't fix this then this is my last sony phone.

Another one bites the dust! My Xperia Z2 is 9 months old and was working like a dream until today morning. It started showing random touches, some times the screen is less responsive. Miss few letters when I am typing. And like everyone in this thread seems to be facing, the status/notification bar refuses to slide down in portrait mode when unlocked. It seems to work fine when the screen is locked, but not as responsive as it was before. It works perfectly in landscape mode. Is this related to any update or a software issue? Sony technical support(India) wasn't much help. They gave some weird answers like, we checked and according to our information Xperia Z2 notification bar cannot be accessed in vertical(portrait mode) and it can be accessed when inside an app. I was like do you even know what you are talking? Because I have been using the phone for all these months. What is the point of even having a notification bar if it cannot be accessed in vertical mode. I am not even sure they know what they are talking about anymore. So my dear fellas, if any of you have found a solution please let me know. I am skeptical about giving it to service centers where it will be attended by people with the same level of knowledge as exhibited by the online support team.

Just to be sure it's software not touch screen related did anyone tried any custom launchers, free on Goog Play? Other skins and themes that would replace original sony skin?
I wonder if it's Sony's broken shell or touch screen sensor break. Thing happened to me after 5.0.1 update, my phone suddenly after 20 min of update stoped charging even if it charged 100% normally on KitKat 30 min. before Lollipop. Service said that motherboard was faulty on charging section.... Maybe Lollipop reaveled an issue with touch screen also which kitkat didn't, and that would be a hardware issue.

Thank you for your tips and suggestions. I have tried Google Now Launcher as well as Next Launcher. The results were the same, the notification slider still stays put. I have been running lollipop for at least a month and haven't faced any issue. I don't remember any new updates recently either. So I am not entirely sure if this is related to software updates. I ran diagnotics, everything seems to be in order including touch sensitivity. But when I am using the screen in real-time applications, I have problems - apps open randomly when I am swiping screens, while typing I missing alphabets etc. I wonder if Sony has a fix for this, I was even more appalled when two different support agents referred to available information and said Sony Z2 doesn't support notification menu when held vertically. I wonder if they are even given hands on experience on handsets they are troubleshooting.

Took the phone to Sony Authorised service center in Trivandrum(Kerala, India), they did basic checks including diagnostics and show touch taps and concluded that the top portion of the touch screen digitizer isn't working. I am not sure whether their diagnostics is correct because if so why does it work when the screen is locked. Also when I am in apps that portion works just fine. Even when I rotate the screen and if the home buttons are at the top side of the screen I can access those as well. In any case they suggested I get it replaced under warranty but they don't do it in Trivandrum and will send to Ernakulam, and it will take a minimum of 3 weeks. I decided to take the handset to Ernakulam center on my own, called them and they gave a response time of a week minimum. I also called Chennai service center who said digitizer replacement will take 20-30 days. As much as I hated my previous Samsung, they took 1 day to replace my broken touch screen. The timeline seems ridiculously high. I am not sure what I am going to do without this phone, which is also my primary phone for 2-4 weeks.

Good to hear the phone will be repaired. Digitalizer is a complicated tech to be precise, there are some metallic squeres that react on magnetic field closure with your finger, one of these squeres might be broken and blocks the whole status bar when displayied and single touches on healthy sectors can give a proper reaction.
There was a service update yet few days ago, I don't know if every phone got it or will get it, mine revision changed to 23.1.A.1.28 from 23.0.A.1.76 and it took only 15 minutes to update OTA without companion, it said just minor bug fixes and added "close all" button on recent apps. I found battery working longer and smoother animations around menu and main screen, also X-Reality works properly now, did they updated the status bar or anything else?.. Can't tell.
