Hi,

Make sure that you have selected album to crop your picture. If you have selected any other photo app you have to go to settings > apps > all > press the app you have selected > clear defaults. If you don't know which one you have selected, you can clear defaults for all apps. Go to settings > apps > all > menu button > clear defaults.

The picture has on exif tag that contains information regarding the orientation of witch the photo is displayed in applications.

So even if a  portrait taken picture is saved landscape in memory the tags stored in the pictures tels the photo viewer app that the picture should be displayed in portrait. So when you try to ad  a picture to a contact and that picture is taken  in portrait mode and when you chose the picture it is in correct orientation, actually the picture is saved in landscape orientation and when you select it and the crop screen appears, the picture is displayed based on the psychical orientation in witch has been saved to memory and not the exif tag orientation..

You can open the picture that was taken in portrait orientation in album, tap on the edit button and open with Photo editor, tap on the crop icon and there you have rotate. You rotate the picture 90 degrease and save it, after you do that in albums the photo appears landscape. You repeat the procedure and rotate photo back in portrait mode and this time the psychical orientation of the file correspond whit the correct rotation.

Sorry for the long explication.. Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks Alex, that was really useful information and I really appreciate you taking the time to post it particularly since Sony makes you jump through many hoops just to leave a comment!

It use to be so straight forward doing this "adding contact photo" when we were having the past update,, but after this 4.4.4 kitkat.... SONY wanted us to do extra step on it..lol
Bro try this..
1. If Portrait position taken photo.
2. Use photo editor.
3. Crop slight smaller (abit will do..)
4. Saved
5. Now... you can use the saved portrait photo for your contact. (this is one of the way i practice myself to use..haha)
Hope it help..
Hmmm till now i still don't know why SONY wanted to make us do extra step.....:-P
