WiFi slow after some minutes

Hi all,

I have problems with my WiFi speed. First I found youtube to load videos quite slowly. After that I used "Oookla Speedtest" to check network speed. I have 6MBit DSL-connection at home, but if I use the speedtest after the WiFi has been switched on for some minutes, I only get ~1Mbits on the Xperia Z3 compact. If I switch WiFi off and on again on the phone, I get the expected ~5Mbits. This happens not only at home, but also at work and at my parents house. WiFi router types are different in all the 3 places.

The problem persists even If I stand 1m away from the router. WiFi reception is shown to be very good on the phone. My old iPhone 4S does not have this problem. Since turning off and on WiFi on the Z3 compact solves that problem for some minutes, I blame it on the phone itself. I already tried turning off and on the phone, as well as factory reset. Problem persists. Any hints?

Thanks a lot!

It's an update to the phones firmware. It's still Android 4.4.4.

Hi, I have update 23.0.1.A.5.77 I'm not seeing .79 as available.

Should .77 fix the problem too? Because in my case it doesn't. After the update, wifi worked excellently for about an hour, and then got worse, until now it doesn't work at all.

I'm so fed up about this.

Ah, I see the .79 version is vodafone specific. So, the upgrade doesn't work for me. I really regret buying this phone.

When are we getting this update in Australia please Richard?

@noize

Glad to hear that the issue is solved Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks again for reporting it, providing us with logs and helping us fix this!

@JuneBob

Sorry to hear that you still have issues with WiFi.

The issue found by noize is solved also in 23.0.1.A.5.77 so what you're seeing may have another cause. Does it happen with a specific network or does it happen with any WiFi network?

@katet

From what i can see, the rollout has started in Australia but if you bought your phone from an operator the update may need operator approval before it can be released for your phone.

Bought the Z3C 2 weeks ago and I immediately noticed the WiFi issue.

Been testing it for days now. So glad I found this thread.

Seems to be a common problem on the Z3C anywhere in the world connected with the WLAN firmware of the phone. I am from the Philippines. The phone I think came from China. (as always)

Here's what exactly is happening to my phone.

Model: Xperia Z3 Compact (D5833) - bought it straight from a store and is not locked from a service provider.

When I connect to any WiFi network, the upload and download of data drops all the time. To be restored again, then drops again. Overall resulting in the slowness of the connection. It is still connected to the WiFi as indicated in the upper icon but you will notice that there is no Upload and Download happening. A lot of times, the Download is the only one affected. I noticed this because of the Upwards and Downwards arrows on the WiFi icon.

When I use mobile data, the issue is not present. Only when I use WiFi. Mobile data and WiFi (home internet) have the same bandwith which is 3mbps.

I experience the WiFi issue even when Mobile data is turned off.

@Rickard, when can we expect an update? Is there a way to just manually do the update on my own?

How do I know if my phone is updated with the firmware/version they are stating above?

All I can see when I go to the 'About phone' in the settings is that the Build number is "23.0.1.A.1.49" but the Software Update (Xperia Update Centre) keeps telling me that my phone is up to date.

If there's a way to fix this asap, please do let me know the instructions.

Before we can release an update for a phone we may need local and operator approvals. This means that an update is not released for all phones at the same time as it depends on where the phone was originally sold (country/operator). I'm afraid i can't see when an update will be released for a certain country/operator but as soon as it is you will get a notification from Update Centre in the phone and/or PC Companion.
The version you need to check is the build number under Settings -> About phone. The version you have now is a version before 23.0.1.A.5.77. I would recommend that you wait for the update to be approved for your unit.

Bought my Z3C a few days ago and can barely use Wifi becaues of this issue.

Absurd that this issue hasn't been fixed as I'm seeing report of it dating back to the Z1!

Will need to return this phone if not fixed soon.

Turning off mobile data does not work for me. The wifi drop issue still occurs.
