wifi hotspot connecting but not sharing internet connection

Hi all,
I have a Sony Xperia Z2 running version 4.4.4.

The problem is that when I create my wifi hotspot for connecting my computer to, with network will be created but no internet is available over the connection. I've tried to connect multiple devices to my phones hotspot and none of them are able to access the internet.

I have updated lately and I think this is where the issue stems from. Any help on the issue would be great.

Thanks in advance.

The Telstra.wap apn is incorrect. You need to make a new one as follows.

Press the + sign in side APN and enter the below details.

Name: Telstra Internet

APN: telstra.internet

Once these to areas are filled simply save it and use this apn instead.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Linc,

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have had. In this case it sounds although you have a problem related to APN's.

I suggest getting the Manual Internet APN information from your network carrier and add it to the APN section.

Menu > Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > press the + and input the data supplied by network carrier.

Once done, make sure the APN is selected and then attempt the Hotspot.

I hope this works.

my problem is the same.

My carrier is Telstra in Australia.

How do I find out " the Manual Internet APN information" from Testra?

From my past experience, there are various numbers to call and they all take up to an hour to talk to someone who then just passes on for another 1 hour wait.

Is there another approach - can I roll back from the last update which may have caused the problem?

I found APN settings but still doesn't work - although my computer now says it has internet access but it doesn't. Perhaps one setting is right but some other is not?
Also tried allowing phone to download settings automatically but also no good. Back to computer saying no internet access.
Anyone able to help me please?

Can you please supply the settings you used to make the new APN?

Hey,
So I managed to go in and see telstra, they are my carrier also, and get them to check these settings. the gentleman in spoke to indicated that mine are correct.
Do you think these APNs could need re-entering?
My APN names are as follows.
Telstra.wap
Telstra.mms
Do you need the data for these settings?
Cheers

Hi Jake,
thanks for your email.
after previously trying many changes that didn't work, I finally found and
pressed "restore to default".
since then it has worked.
I tried to make the change you suggested, since the default APN "Telstra
Internet" specified "telstra.wap" which you advised is wrong.
However I first received a message saying it conflicted with a locked
something (don't remember what).
That may be because the "Telstra Broadband" specifies "telstra.internet"?
Anyhow, tried again and 2nd time have been successful to make the new APN
as you suggested.
I selected it.
My computer is still on line.
Then decided to restart my phone to see if wifi hotspot would still work.
Happy to report that yes it does work, same as when I had selected reset to
default, which then gave me the telstra.wap

thanks again for your help. I assume I should keep the new APN setting as
you suggested of telstra.internet ? not go back to the default telstra.wap?
