Swipe issue, unwanted "bounce-back" effect

I am having an issue with my Z3 Comact where I sometimes get a "bounce back" effect when swiping through things such as home screens and photos, eventhough I've not reached the end or the start. It happens at irregular intervals. Some times I need to swipe up to three or four times in a row before a successful swipe (but that's rather rare).

What's causing this? Is it a known issue to Sony? Is it a firmware issue? If so, has it been addressed in a newer firmware version? I am currently at 23.0.A.2.93, the latest in my region.

I must say that the touch screen has been great since updating to 23.0.1.A.5.77 !

Does anyone else experience this?

Hi.!

i started writing a reply earlier today - and then the forum crashed (NO - it wasn't my post..?  I think??! Winking_Face Anyway - my reply wasn't posted, so here is the condensed version of what I wrote....

Try as I might - I can't replicate what you are seeing?  I tried with several launchers (Xperia Home, Basic, Nova, etc.) - but - I can't replicate it? I even tried by ticking "Glove Mode"..   For that, it sounds like it might one of a couple of things, though?

First - do you have a screen protector of some sort on it?  I'm wondering if it's not interfering with the driving and/or sensing lines on your display (it would probably be the driving lines, I would think?). Anyway - if it is, it will clip motions...

Second - it could be that a widget is actually in the cache of the launcher - but, it isn't showing..  If that's the case, the software will think you are interacting with the widget - even though you are not...  To fix that - it's pretty easy - BUT YOU WILL RESET ALL THE WIDGETS/CUSTOMIZATIONS you have on the screens - so beware...  To reset it - go to SETTINGS - APPS - ALL - and scroll all the way to the bottom.  You will see "Xperia Home"..  Kill the cache and data - and you will have a fresh launcer reset to the factory default. Unfortunately - I don't believe simply clearing the cache will work - but, you can try..?

Hope this helps - and I apologize if you've already tried these suggestions..!

Thanks for your reply.

I don't use a screen protector and it doesn't seem to be bound to specific apps or widgets either.

It happens for anythere that has "things to swipe".

Scrolling works fine as far as I can tell, and I see no odd behavior when drawing lines in a drawing app. There are never unwanted breaks/interruptions in lines I deaw.

The odd behavior only kicks in when swiping between things that "jump to the next item" if swiped.

I found a video on YouTube which shows the exact issue I'm experiencing:

What is the firmware version on yours? Maybe yours is on a newer f/w version and it could be a f/w issue that has already been addressed? The latest f/w available in my region is the one that ends on .93 but some regions are on .98 and UK is even on .105

I'm having exactly the same problem and it's really annoying me! I'm in the uk and on f/w 105. The video you posted shows the problem and it does the same sort of thing when scrolling up and down web pages. It'll be fine for a while then do it several times in the space of a few minutes!

Thanks for your feedback on the firmware version.

Do you also find that it happens less during two-handed use? As in holding the phone in one hand and swiping with the other hand.

It also seems to happens less if I lift my finger a bit higher off the screen immediately after a swipe.

I'm thinking the touch screen may be too sensitive, for example, a light tap on the status bar already brings down the notification screen. Perhaps some people have a bit less static current around their skin and thus don't encounter the problem?

It's a strange problem because the touch screen is very responsive otherwise, I've not had a single unregistered touch.

I am thinking it is a side-effect of the technology that makes the glove mode possible?

Yes it happens a lot less when I use a finger to scroll around and hold the phone with the other hand. I'd like to know if it's a problem with the screen so I can send it back or it's likely to be a software issue that may be resolved. The screen does seem to work well as you say but if it was a software issue or problem with all z3 compacts I'd have thought there would be more reports of this online, I've been searching & can only find a few references to it at the moment.

Hi,

I'm on build 23.0.A.2.93 which arrived from HK last week...

As well - I just watched the video link you posted - and I have nothing like that happening at all.??  As well - other settings I've played with are to try to replicate this issue are:

Glove Mode (on/off)

Display settings - including tap to wake, the various image tweaks, etc..

Power options - Stamina modes, etc..?

Holding in with two-hands - one handed (I'm not a great believer in "your holding it wrong" Winking_Face HA!)

Have you tried booting into "Safe Mode" - and see if it still happens.??

Anyway - I'll keep digging, but reading this thread with interest..!

Same here (UK). Two-handed use if fine, but one-handed using my thumb? Not working correctly. It can take 2 or 3 attempts to unlock my device and my homescreens bounce all over the place. Very annoying and I am amazed this issue exists. I'm pretty sure this is a s/w issue, as two handed use is OK. I also noticed that when in Stamina mode, with the "Extended usage" option enabled the issue is much less noticeable!
