Last night lots of my apps updated. This moring my phone constantly has the cast icon on my phone. When i click it, it has the play and cross icons and it says 'cast device not connected'. When i try to sweep it to get rid of the notofication and icon nothi g happens. It is constantly on. I switched my phone on and off several times. I also checked the cast in settings and it is not connected to anything. How do i get rid of it.

I tried Googling around for this behaviour and it seems as if the Facebook app is the culprit here, since it occurs with other Android phone models as well; not necessarily Xperia. I had a look in the Google Play Store reviews for the app and there are many users mentioning this, so it seems to be on Facebook here.
Facebook was updated the 24th of October, does that correspond to time when you started seeing the Cast icon as well?

Do you happen to have media server activated under Settings > Device connection > Media server? Also, have you used the cast feature before?
Just to be sure, could you also try to see if it occurs in safe mode?

I can see that there's a new update available from Facebook, it was released yesterday. Did you have the chance to try installing it in order to see if it helps?

I can forward it internally as user feedback, but since it's on Facebook's end I strongly recommend that you leave feedback on their app page as well as try contacting them regarding this using the contact email. You can do so at their Google Play Store page.
