Sony Xperia Z5 Compact has an echo when making calls

Hi,

I have a brand new Sony Xperia Z5 Compact,
when I make/receive calls, the person at the other end has an echo from my phone.
THIS is not the case using a bluetooth device to make the calls with.

Please advice what to do ?

Infomation about the phone :
Modelnumber    : E5823
Android version : 5.1.1
Kernelsystem    : 3.10.49-perf-g83fc9bc
Versionnumber : 32.0.A.6.152

Best regards
Jan

Oh well, the issue just happened when someone else called me. Right at the beginning the caller notified me about the echo. So, the echo can appear at the start of both incoming and outgoing calls.

I got my unit replaced owing to this issue. Now, I have a new Z5C from the same shop and of same p. number (1298-2057), same revision (Rev. 2) and.... yesssss, same echo problem and same disappointment to me. BTW, it is running firmware 32.0.A.6.152

You just need to turn the volume down

Turning the volume down is not a solution, at least in my case. The echo persists for the first 20-30 seconds of the call and then it suddenly dissapears. I think that would not be the effect if it were caused by high volume of the speaker.

I hope sony fixes this problem in a further firmware update.

You can see your version under Settings > About phone > Build number.

As I already commented earlier, the build 32.0.A.6.200 does NOT fix the echo issues. In fact, it seemingly had no effect whatsoever for this problem.

I confirm that build 32.0.A.6.200 does not fix this issue: The person on the other end of the line hears an echo of him/herself. Reproducable in 100% of all calls, with both SIMs I'm using alternating in this phone booking the phone into different networks. Dialog partners report that the echo disappears after a certain period of time (this may be the already mentioned 20 to 30 seconds). Which leads me to the conclusion that this has to be a software issue. Only workaround is a headset. If there is not a solution for this problem soon, I will return this phone and order a competitive product!

Same problem for me with the latest firmware.

I got a new Z5 the other day and I used it to call just 4-5 times.
On 3 of these call I received a complain from the other side about a bad echo, which disappears at some point.

It looks there is no problem with the headset or with my PS Vita phones.

Looking at the other posts it seems that I cannot do nothing, until we have a patch and bringing the phone in service will do nothing.

I must say it is a shame for SONY to deliver such hi-end and expensive phone without even testing the very basic feature... really frustrating.

Hi all. Tried to google this issue if any else manufacturer has this same issue and found this:

  • Open Google Search app
  • Menu -> settings
  • Tap 'voice'
  • Tap 'OK Google Detection'
  • Uncheck 'from any screen' and 'from lock screen'

Done. Made few test calls and asked people to call me and no echo issues so far!
