I discovered today that when placing a call the screen locks and I am unable to unlock it again until the call is terminated. If I place a call to a number and want to hang up before I am connected, the screen is just black and the on/off button does not work. I have to wait for the call to terminate to be able to unlock the screen.
If I activate the function of letting the on/off button hang up my calls, then I am able to hang up during a call. However, if I call a customer service type phone where I need to give numeric input (for example provide my customer id number) I am unable to active the screen and use the dialer (number pad).
I have done the following to try to fix the problem:
I resterted the phone.
I have checked that I have the latest available update version for the phone.
I have done a factory data reset.
I have booted the phone in safe mode, and I experience the same problem then.
Help to fix this problem would be highly apprecited.

When it is covered,it should say on.Is that the case?
Hello.
I did that test too, and it says proximity switch OFF. Is it ok? I have to do somthing to turn it ON? How?
Thank you.
The proximity works by default,no special actions to enable it.
Hi,
I have the exactly the same problem. And I run the proximity test and also says "proximity switch on". But I dont have any screen protector covering the sensor and the srceen is free from scratches. So dont know what can I do to fix this problem. Should I open the phone to clean the sensor or can I turn off the proximity sensor?
Please help
I had the exact same problem and got on to o2 about it. ( It's worth a mention I'm using a Z5 Compact, not a Z1, though.) Went through all the technical stuff and it turned out to be my screen protector. Phone works perfectly fine now. Moral of the story for me? Change the crappy screen protector you first get, then any others every couple months at most.
The main problem is, why i cannot disable the proximity sensor at all. If it's broken like at mine, it's simply unasable, and it's not 2 years old yet (Z3 compact). Camera broken (motherboard simply gone only for back camera)/Proximity broken glue at front side does not hold. It's simply a piece. I would like to buy a phone which has not proximity sensor, so i'm able to workaround any issue stopping the call. (It's basic thing)
Thanks so much. I've been having the same problem and it was driving me mad. I had also done the code thing and a factory reset. I just removed my cover and cleaned the sensor and now it works fine. Thanks again.
