Screen goes black during call

Hello, if I want to make the Z5 a call and dial the number and pick up the phone, the screen goes black and I can do nothing more. It then responds to anything, not even on the Power button until the other ends the call. Then, the screen lights up again and it goes back all normal.

Same issue here, twice been to service center and about to send again. One support agent said that they may replace the phone. Very disappointing, I really trust Sony but it changed now.

I'm experiencing this more and more frequently.

The problem is it's intermittent so I have no idea when it will happen but it is as frequent as 1 out of 5 calls

It was there with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and still there with 6.0 Marshmallow

I factory reset it, still there

When I go into the service menu to test the proximity sensor it works as expected

Shaking it seems to take it out of the black screen, but it's very frustrating especially when you make a call that asks you to press a number to choose an option and then you are stuck until the call ends......:)

My provider has asked me to send it in for repair. I hope they can reproduce it

I'll keep you posted

Same problem here. No screen protector.2nd device

I change the first one. Second one recived from amazon and the same issue with Android 6.0.

After a call the screen remains black for 2 minutes. It doesn't answer to anything.

Slightly_frowning_Face I will change this second device and i will buy a Samsung device...

I had the same problem. My operator asked me to send it in for repair.

So my phone has been returned as "no fault found" They said it is software related

I have now only installed the most necessary apps....let's see how it goes. The problem has not reaapeared in the last 7 days.

Will keep you posted

So it happened again today Slightly_frowning_Face

searching the internet I found http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-6/506621-since-5-1-during-calls-my-screen-goes-black-d...

"What you want to do is go into accessibility under settings and check power button to end call . Restart the phone. Somehow when I check this my proximity sensor started working correctly again also after that I unchecked it so put it back to normal, (maybe needs a restart again not sure)  and it is still working flawlessly. I believe when you check that it recalibrates the sensor. So could someone else please check this and see if it works for them.. ( I wish I would have discovered this before I lifted up my screen protector like 10 times and messed up most of the edges smh.... )"

Might be worth trying at least. Please let us know if you try it and what the results are.

I've just checked the power button to end call and restarted the phone. Will keep you posted on the results

I got this resolved today...

go to settings

go to apps

top right (three dots) press and show system.

scroll down to phone, there could be more than one phone.

select phone.

select storage

select clear data

select go back arrow.

repeat if you have a second phone listed.

end of problem.

To the two previous posts...I tried both the clearing phone memory and cache (did nothing, even after a restart) and the changed "power button ends call" (setting it on, restarting and setting it off, and restarting).  The person who posted this second option must be on to something because for a half-a second, I saw my actual lit call screen BEFORE IT WENT BLACK AGAIN.  This is basically ridiculous.  Sony needs to get on this ASAP and update something in the software...or tell me how to just disable the sensor altogether.

I have had this problem develop after having my screen replaced so I've been guessing that I'm just out of luck but now that I know that it is happening to a lot of people, I'm guessing that it is just sensor issues in general.  I've had my phone since late January 2016 and had the screen completely lose functionality after a small crack, now after a $150 screen replacement, my calls have been progressively "blacker".  Meaning, it was not an issue for about a week after being fixed, but now the screen goes black during EVERY call.  I currently have voicemails I cannot check as I can't use the keyboard when the screen is dead.  So far the only thing that has helped is checking the "power button ends call" so at least I can hang up a call.  But...so much for keypad use during calls.

OK I'm still having this problem

Interestingly if I press firmly on the top right corner or pinch the top right corner of the phone it makes the sensor go 'off' (out of the black screen)

Note I am not pressing the sensor, I'm pressing at the top right corner of the screen or pinching the corner

This behaviour is very consistent!

So I went into the service menu to test the proximity sensor

It can be found via Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > The tab "Tests" > Ear proximity.

The phone is in a continuous vibrate which meant that the sensor was in the 'on' state

If I pinch the top corner it goes 'off'

Based on the above I conclude that the senor is not wired up properly and this would explain why it has been intermittent for me.
