Screen goes black during call

Hello, if I want to make the Z5 a call and dial the number and pick up the phone, the screen goes black and I can do nothing more. It then responds to anything, not even on the Power button until the other ends the call. Then, the screen lights up again and it goes back all normal.

Es reagiert dann auf nichts, nicht mal auf die Power Taste bis der andere das Gespräch beendet. Dann wird der Bildschirm wieder **bleep** und es geht wieder alles normal.

Xperia Z5. Android 6 - build no 32.1.A.1.163

Still encounter same problem. I regret buying this Xperia Z5. Sony cannot do anything to fix their problem. I purchased Z5 at one of the largest Sony Centre in my country, get the screen protector from their Centre and applied the screen protector by their staff on the same day at the same time.

And yet Sony ask to try to remove the screen protector. If it is working, so what? Have you ever heard any other phone company say to u "your phone is not suitable to be used with screen protector".. Yeah. it only happens with one of the most Sony expensive 'smartphone'.

If anyone reading this and not yet purchase Z5, please don't. You'll regret it. They made mistake on important features and 6 months they sit down doing nothing and put the blame on customer because of dust..

I have a regular Z5 with the overzealous proximity sensor.  I frequently can't end calls and the screen stays black.  Looking at other threads on the issue it appears that I need to send it back for repair but I know that some users are getting the phone back to them as "no fault found".  I have no screen protector on this phone.  In diagnostics, the vibration starts when I cover the sensor but it frequently stays on with even a small trace of oil or other residue on the sensor.  Should I send this phone in for a third trip to Sony?

So I went against my loyalty to apple and at the end of my contract with them I decided to get the Sony Xperia Z5 compact. This decision was purely because sony's camera is so good and i am a new mom snapping away at everything. Well, this has been the worst decision now that's making my life. The Sony phones proximity sensor worked for the first couple days only that i had this phone. Now i cannot make a call and end it. Now this is a huge problem because It uses all my call time when i cannot end a call, in an emergency when my child was projectile vomiting i had to force my phone to restart which took 5 minutes before i could phone the hospital and if i take my phone in to get this fixed i will wait a month for the phone to come back. Now, how does a new (single) mom function in this world without a phone for a month, Sony? Please don't suggest i type *#*#7378423#*#* (i have done this). I have taken my cover and screen guard off and that doesn't help. It seems this is a big problem effecting many Sony users so please can you help us!!!???? you guys need to fix this problem now!!! this is the worst glitch a phone could ever have so please Sony please! I am at the stage where i may have to take out another contract just so i have a phone that makes phone calls and ends them. I mean Sony, this is the basis of a phone making and ending voice calls so basically the Xperia is not a phone, its a toy! please fix this, I'm begging you to sort this out!

That is precicely how I feel but I'm trying to stick to the facts

Worst phone I have ever had.  3 major issues since December and 2 visits to the repair centre with another on the cards

I actually didnt mean to post that on your post so i'm sorry to flood your post with my anger also. I did, however, find an option where i can end the call by pressing the power button (under accessability settings) but this is not a solution because if you need to put the call on hold, answer another call, use the key pad, turn on speakerphone, these options are still not available and i honestly think sony doesnt care. I am now going to tell everyone i know not to buy sony and in the future i never will again.

I have the same issue with the power button workaround as I often have to access other applications whilst I'm in a call as I work in tech support.  It makes me look like a fool to the third party as I should be able to talk whilst running other apps.

I have been having the same issue for the last month, its really annoying I have left 5 mins messages cause I couldnt hang up. I tried the test and as soon as it started, it vibrated without me covering the sensors. I clean it up, and been using the phone for the last 30mins and everything seems ok. I do use a screen protector.

Same issue here.

I removed my screen protctor and the case from my Xperia Z5 and still when I get a call or when I am making a call - the screen goes black and I'm unable to end a call or dial extra digits if needed.

I think it happend after the last SW update, not sure though....

This is a basic functionality that have to be fixed or I will have to get rid of this phone and get a new one.

Hi, I've got the same issue and only noticed it on a night out where it was obviously dark. The issue for me is that the power button does not override the proximity sensor issue. So if you happen to be in a dark room you cannot get the screen to come on with the power button (like most other phones I would've thought?) The only way around it as you say is rebooting the phone!

So two issues:

proximity sensor is useless at night.

and power button doesnt work when in phone call.

I've problem,when I'm calling to other user my phone screen is going to off,no seeing....while other people not ended my call my mobile screen is not seeing.
